Obama says US, China reach agreement on cyber-theft

President Obama, coming out of a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping where the country's suspected hacking was expected to factor heavily, announced Friday the two nations have reached a preliminary agreement on cyber-theft -- and said he indicated to Xi that the cyber-threat "has to stop."

Speaking in the Rose Garden alongside the Chinese leader, Obama said he raised with his Chinese counterpart the United States' "very serious concerns about growing cyber threats to American corporations and American citizens

He added, "I indicated that it has to stop."

Oh, yeah, that will work. I can hear the conversation in my head:

Obama: "The cyber-theft has to stop."

Xi: "Oh. It does? Well, OK."

Obama: "Then you will stop."

Xi: "Oh, yes. Of course. Consider it done."They shake hands and, in Obama's idealistic mind, that's all there is to it.

Most nations have OFFENSIVE as well as DEFENSIVE "cyber" departments in their military.
These are large and well funded departments.
Cyber attacks will be carried out by all nations, in all kinds of creative ways, under all kinds of guises.

This is just the way asymmetric warfare is done now.

It's not going away.


There are no "happy thoughts".
This is the way the world works now.
