Top Cuban general, key forces in Syria to aid Assad, Russia, sources say

Cuban military operatives reportedly have been spotted in Syria, where sources believe they are advising President Bashar al-Assad’s soldiers and may be preparing to man Russian-made tanks to aid Damascus in fighting rebel forces backed by the U.S.

Gen. Leopoldo Cintra Frias, head of Cuba's Armed Forces, recently visited Syria to lead a group of Cuban military personnel joining forces with Russia in their support of Assad, according to information received by the University of Miami's Institute for Cuban and Cuban-American Studies.
The 1980s called. They want their international tensions back.

I feel so bad for the Syrian people that are not even taking a position in the conflict. They are the true victims here. Its like world war 3 all confined to that one country

I can understand Cuba getting involved. Castro and co are toadying up to Russia in the hope of getting back all those hand outs they had in the days of the Soviet Union.

Oh if only Obama had stepped in to depose Assad when he had the chance.

That's so bogus. It's been clearly documented that jihadists are the ones who have used that stuff. No evidence that Assad did.

Ah, I see you're a fan of his 'policies.'

Do you mean his policies that champion a secular, democratic nation as opposed to a sectarian nation ruled by sharia law? Yes, I am.
Frankly I'm not a fan of either sharia law or his type of 'democracy.'

What exactly is it about "his type of 'democracy'" that you find offensive? Are you sue you aren't confusing Assad with his father?

What a mess? The simple issues of life, where are they? A whole society destroyed.
This is on a scale we have never seen before, and motivated by Islamic extremists, who seem to be increasing their effect rather than diminishing it.

The root cause is Islam, but the people refuse to accept it has hijacked their communities and trades off creating enemies and hiding the sin within, while justifying murder, rape and any abominable practice they want to do against their foe.

All the refugees bring with them the same seeds of destruction they held and fermented in their home country.
The ways of thinking are too alien and extreme for us to understand or comprehend because we never had to survive through centuries of insane dictators and religious nut cases.

Like father like son. Hafiz was as beloved as his 'democratically elected' son: 99,8 % of the votes in 2007 and 88,7% in 2014! Yes, the Syrians must really like Bashar!

It's not as simple as that. Syria is a very complex country. There are many salafists there (Homs in the video as one example) who are so hateful of Alawites that they would rather have ISIS in charge than Assad. The Baathists had to use and iron fist to deal with these people because they are crazy. There is no question that remnants of the totalitarian Baathists are still there, but hopefully this war will help to purge them from power. Assad himself is not like his father.

Newsweek, June 17: Syrian doctors detail horrors of chemical attacks to Congress

"Panelists echoed previously stated concerns that the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is using chemical warfare to attack the country’s civilian population with impunity in Assad's ongoing battle to root out opposition fighters."

It's bogus propaganda. I've seen it before. Assad had no reason to use chemical weapons then because he was whipping the jihadists' asses. They had every reason to stage an attack and blame it on Assad to try to win western support for intervention. If you dig deeper you will find that all evidence points to the jihadists. And they're still doing it.

Putin’s next move is to sit back and wait until Trump is back in Office.

Putin will do whatever he can to get Trump re-elected.

Once done; Putin’s off to the races.
