What is really stupid about Black Friday is this.

In Canada, we are thankful the harvest is over and the crops are in, on the second Monday of October. So this year Oct 12 was our Thanksgiving.

But every store in Canada is bending over backwards to have Black Friday sales. I mean, we don't celebrate Thanksgiving on the Thursday, and we don't get Thursday or Friday off from work. Yet I saw reports of people being furious with BestBuy because their Canadian website broke down at midnight. (Not to worry, some of the shoppers went and bought stuff on-line from Walmart!)

Why did we have to import a sale which in no way, shape or form has a thing to do with Canada?

We do have Boxing Day Sales, the day after Christmas, which have come to resemble the American Black Friday sales. You know, people camping out all night to get ridiculously marked down, but a limited number of items.

So while we do appreciate being neighbours with the US, with the longest unprotected border in the world, will you please take back your Black Friday sales?

Thanks in advance!
id rather see the materialistic commercialism burn to the ground once and for all.

I myself like every other year, will buy nobody nothing for any holiday.

Me and my son just rode on his cub scout float on our annual holiday parade. Just seeing all those people coming out in the freezing temps and the smiles on their faces made me feel really grateful for where I live and gave me some hope that there is still some joy in the world. Feeling good about my town.

Burn commericalism to the ground I say.
It's really sad....that we are so consumed with the consumption of consumer goods. I think it's gonna be yellowstone. It's gonna blow a hole in the ground a 100 miles wide and leave a thousand mile radius buried under 10 to 20 feet of ash.

I'm concerned for all the other Fridays....because all Fridays matter. I mean sure, there's Fri the 13th and all but it ain't like its got its own shopping day. And what about Mon? It must feel buried under a mountain animosity and injustice in comparison to Friday.

Looks like black eye Friday has kicked off as planned in typical fashion with Americans fighting over tv and toasters just one day after being thankful for all they have.
We have just had our second Black Friday here. Last year we had riots in some stores, people risking life and limb for
a TV or Laptop. This year it has gone down like a lead balloon. The only stores making a profit were on line. Retail outlets
had a really black Friday and serves them all right. We don't have thanksgiving here, with our economic situation there isn't much to be thankful about.

Lol I have never Black Friday shopped, never even bought anything from Walmart to make a point of it. I don't fault ppl for going out on the Black Friday stuff though I don't think it's all that terrible capitalistic doomsday stuff. It was looking like it could go that way for a while though. If they wanna bear with the lines and waiting and stuff it's no sin. The problem was the ultra-violence and stuff in years past, people caring more for the deal than other people. Some people intend well though they just trying to get a good deal, and indeed, its the best day generally for buyers to get a bargain. For myself just personally never wanted to have to wait outside a store starting at 2-3 in the morning lol. A buddy of mine always been a big Black Friday bargain hunter, smart dude on all that stuff, has a keen eye for a good deal.

From what I've seen this year's Black Friday seem somewhat tamer compared to some years where they got absolute tragedies happening. Perhaps the Cyber Monday and online deals are a good way indeed to sorta thin the herd of bargain hunters down and thus tone down the chaos that large crowds bring and make them more manageable.

I don't think of myself as too materialistic but I like analyzing business affairs from time to time. There's more to commerce, trade, business, and such than just materialism.

I know my evidence here is purely anecdotal, but I've never known somebody who participated in Black Friday.

It's when most American businesses "go into the black" which means they begin turning a profit. Going into the red is when you have losses.

EDIT: Basically is the color of ink they'd use in them old days of good old fashioned pen and paper before the computer and such.

Stupid is as stupid does. A wise man said that once. It holds true today.
