It said in that article that Turkey has previously complained about Russia violating its airspace. That might be because Turkey unilaterally extended its border south into Hatay (Syria) by 5 km because Turkmen live there. That is the area where the Russian jet was shot down. That would be like Mexico saying its border with the US is now 5 km further north because so many Mexicans live there.

Man has no answers.

First we say "love your enemy"
then we say "blow them to pieces"

then we say "welcome to the refugees"
now "stop them coming here"

The world wants war and it will come, let us be not from the world.

I may have this wrong but I thought Hatay became part of Turkey sometime after the first world war, and it wasn't a unilateral
decision.

Which world are we to be from? Jesus prayed that we should not be taken from the world but kept from the evil one.
Mars is probably the only alternative, but as Bowie said 'it aint the kind of place to raise your kids'

You're right. I thought Hatay was the name of the area south of the border, but it's north of there. In 2012, Turkey unilaterally and illegally moved its airspace border 5 km south into Syria. This was an effort to create a no-fly zone there for Syrian aircraft.

I am definitely confoosed. Our Parliament is even more confoosed about it all. The truth is that there are a number of nasty
groups of Psychpaths fighting each other with ISIS and Assad on the top of the heap. I think we should leave them all to get on with it because all the sane Syrians have left the country.

You have heard that the enemy of my enemy is my friend but looking at this link

Syrian conflict relationships, explained.

The enemy of my friend is now my friend. :p
It's pretty clear to me that there are too many cooks in the kitchen. Two options: kill Al Nusra, kill ISIS. Be the hero and make demands.

Also, we missed the boat with Assad. If we wanted him gone, we should have knocked him out when he was on the ropes. Now that he has direct Russian support, screw it.

The Syrian sandpit is not worth a large scale war.

Twas better to die neath an Irish sky than at Suvla or Sud-El-Bar

I hope there are many like you.
It'd be one thing if American freedom were at stake. I'd even suck it up if I could be confident the war would, in effect, replace an evil with a sustainable not-so-evil.

But this utter waste is no reason for a war. Nobody, it seems, wants to fight radical islam. Nope, they just want to prop up pointless political goals.

Norway: Sits around hoping big brothers US and UK will solve the problem
(Although it wouldn't surprise me if it turns out we have sent military equipment to someone somewhere)
