Russian Orthodox, Roman Catholic churches’ leaders to sign 10 pages long declaration

http://tass.ru/en/society/856131

"In many countries of the Middle East and North Africa, entire families of our brothers and sisters in Christ are being exterminated, entire villages and cities," the declaration said.
Pope, patriarch meet in Cuba nearly 1,000 years after split

They are uniting because they are being exterminated in other parts of the world.

Praise Jesus, this is big news indeed, a nigh millennia old schism in Christendom bridged! I am not catholic or orthodox, it's not about the denominations themselves, it is about praise to Jesus and also proof there is a chance still for Christendom to reunite and push back against the present darkness.

I'll need to look into this deeper, but wow if the Great Schism of 1054 could be undone, that would be something!

I am very skeptical about this. There are a number of differences between the two Churches. The Orthodox Church was
declared Anathema by a Pope who died four months before his emissaries delivered his proclamation, so technically it wasn't valid. The Pope is not recognized as infallible, and the Immaculate Assumption and bodily ascension of Mary is not recognized by the Orthodox Church. I think that the Doctrine of Purgatory is not recognized either. I am sure there must be someone on site who may have more knowledge than me. If so I would be interested to hear it.

So how will this ecumenical move turn the tide of Christian extermination?
Will not the East/West split continue until the Eastern Orthodox also Ecumenicises?...and eventually will to solidify the Apostate Harlot Church of the latter days.
