It's been a long time now, but I also had a few instances of this using Internet Explorer, a browser I gave up on years ago for still other reasons it became such junk. This is to say I don't know if Internet Explorer is better now, but I've used Chrome for years. As long as you don't click on anything suspicious on a webpage, like popups or whatever prompting you to click, you should be okay. Merely loading a page can't hurt your computer, at least with Chrome, I once even read. It's a pretty secure browser. Of course, I'd hope you're using good and up to date virus protection. Just an aside, something I found most disconcerting is that some Windows updates have done terrible things, stopped doing Windows updates, Microsoft sometimes almost as dangerous as some geek kid in Russia!
