Securing our Nation’s Borders

There is only one way to effectively and permanently secure our Nation’s land borders. To do so will require the President and the Congress to work together in a united and determined effort to achieve this goal. It is their Constitutional duty to protect and defend the people of the United States, and given the situation along our Southern border today, they are failing miserable in their duty.

My solution is Constitutional and effective! As well, there will be many side benefits realized by using my solution. First I will discuss the solution, then I will outline the benefits realized.

I will address the southern border, however, this solution can also be applied to our northern border. This proposal does not address the issue of those illegal aliens currently in the United States, becasue that issue can and must be resolved at a later date. Simply put, if you are bleeding, step one is to stop the bleeding, then you can deal with cleaning up any blood that might have spilt out. I am no fool, I realize that the issue of securing our borders is a “great campaign issue” and that neither the Democrats, nor the Republicans are in any real hurry to resolve it.

Much like the issue of abortion, separation of church and state or our broken public education system, the border issue is far too valuable as a campaign issue. That being said, one thing is for certain, with the receipt of this proposal no one, can say there is no way to secure our border.

Solution:
a) The President and the Congress announce that a one half mile wide strip extending from the eastern most tip of the southern border in Texas to the western most tip of the border in California is to be designated as a military installation. The Congress will designate specific portions of this installation (by dividing the number of casualties from the 9/11 attack into the actual miles the installation will cover, northern and southern) to be named after the casualties of 9/11. For example: Camp John Doe, Camp Jane Smith, etc.

b) US Military personnel will be moved to this installation and will immediately begin to construct the facilities needed. As well, they will build a security fence not only on the south side of the installation, but the north side as well. There will be a determined effort to use a civilian work force in the construction of the facilities.

c) Designated US Military personnel will immediately begin to patrol and secure the installation. They will do so by building a road the length of their installation along the southern border. Watch towers capable of holding two soldiers are to be erected along this road way. These towers must be within sight of each other in order to enhance the security of the personnel manning the towers. Mobile K-9 patrols will also be initiated immediately to compliment and assist the personnel in the watch towers. All available electronic surveillance devices available will be utilized as the Commanding Officer determines their need and positioning.

d) Recruiting Battalions will immediately begin a campaign to recruit new personnel to staff these Camps. They will offer the following incentives to the new recruits provided they enlist for a three year period under this program. 1) New recruits will be guaranteed that they will serve their entire first enlistment at one of the Camps designated. 2) New recruits will receive a $2,000.00 cash bonus for enlisting for this program. 3) New recruits will receive the job training of their choice (provided they qualify) to fill the many Military

e) Occupation Specialties that will be required to operate these Camps. 4) New recruits will be required to sign a statement that they fully understand that “only” their “first three year enlistment period” will be guaranteed to be served defending our borders at one of the designated Camps. Should they choose to reenlist after the completion of their first three year term, they will be subject to being station/assigned as the appropriate authority determines. They will be qualified for any reenlistment incentives that all other military personnel are offered and qualify for.

f) National Guard personnel and designated Active Duty personnel currently stationed at military installations within the US will be the first to arrive. As personnel are rotated back from duty overseas, they will replace the National Guard personnel until the service of the Guard is no longer necessary and they can return to their normal duties/lives. As the new recruiting campaign begins to provide personnel trained to staff these Camps, the Vets serving there will be replaced first and then the Active Duty personnel from other CONUS installations, until the Camps are self-sustaining personnel wise based on the recruiting campaign.

g) First to be assigned will be Military Police, Engineers, Communications and the Administrative personnel necessary to support these (Clerks, Cooks, Medical, Financial, Postal, etc.).

h) A Commanding Officer will be appointed over all the Camps along the southern border (1 or 2 Star General), and Commanding Officers will be appointed for each Camp. These Commanders will be provided the necessary Staff to accomplish their mission.

i) When the construction of the Camps reaches populated, privately owned areas, the power of Eminent Domain will be used to acquire the property and legal land owners will be reimbursed for their property at “fair market value”. This includes any property inside existing Cities located along the border. All existing structures within the one half mile wide zone will be demolished and new structures will be constructed as determined necessary. Ground radar will be utilized to locate existing “smuggling tunnels” and ground sensors will be placed along these areas to detect any attempt to construct new “tunnels”.

j) Authorized border crossing points currently operated by the US Border Patrol will continue to operate under current laws and staffed by the Border Patrol under their jurisdiction. Construction of the Camps will extend to within three hundred yards of these Authorized Crossing Points on either side of the Crossing Points. US Border Patrol personnel deemed in excess to secure the authorized crossing points will be reassigned as their Commander determines.

Benefits realized: a) The immediate effect of added security of our southern border. b) Creation of jobs (both civilian and military, enhancing our economic recovery and adding much needed financial assistance to the poverty riddled areas along our southern border. c) Economic growth for the civilian businesses in the area of these Camps. d) Tax revenues for the local, county and state governments where the Camps are located. e) Additional revenues for the local School Districts along the length of the southern border. f) The immediate deterrent to the criminal activity that is currently out of control along our southern border (illegal weapons, illegal drugs, kidnappings, auto thefts, murder, assaults, gang activities and violence as well as the flood of illegal aliens). g) A real increase in the number of military personnel serving on Active Duty. The personnel stationed along our southern border will be readily available to assist civilian governments in the event of Natural and/or Man caused Disasters such as the attacks on 9/11 or hurricane Katrina. As well, these

Camps can serve as a storage area for supplies used by FEMA and as a staging area when FEMA and troops are called into service to assist in the event of a disaster. h) The realized excess of US Border Patrol personnel will provide the appropriate authorities to better staff and secure authorized crossing points along our border resulting in greater deterrence of the aforementioned criminal activities that may occur at these authorized sites. i) All of these benefits will directly result in additional revenues for the Federal Government.

In conclusion: Thousands of jobs, both government and civilian, will be created, the crime rate will be greatly reduced not only along the border but all over the country, there will be a certain positive boost to our economy and MOST IMPORTANT, our citizens will realize a sense of “security” knowing that the Government has finally taken positive and effective actions to resolve this issue which can ONLY TRUTHFULLY be described as a “clear and present danger” to our National Security. The ball, as they say, is now in your court, which of you will have the courage to pick it up and run with it? (I won’t hold my breath)

Thanks, and Trump wasn't the first to believe this to be a serious issue that needed addressing.

As you are a supporter of his, feel free to copy it and email it to him. Who knows? Maybe he will actually learn something?

:)

...........anyway........

I don't think we could tell Trump much about organization, construction and management of land and real-estate that he doesn't already know. Albeit what you've outlined is well thought out and organized.

First thing we need is some politicians in power that are not part of some big-money and leftist world agenda and actually want a secure border ...

So basically your plan would require that the Federal government confiscate almost 1,000 square miles of land across the southern border. OK, technically less than that since a percentage of that area is already Federal land, but you get the picture.

In several areas such as Nogales, Arizona/Nogales, Sonora the city on each side of the border is built right up to the border fence on both sides of the border which would require seizing not just open private land, but businesses and homes within that half mile area (at least Trump's wall would affect by far fewer people).

Likewise, along our southern border are large ranches whose boundaries date back to when CA, AZ, NM, and TX were all part of Mexico that are now bisected by the international border. Your swath through the middle of a ranch (and Trump's wall) would force these ranchers into a ridiculous situation to continue to utilize their land to the south of the border.

I understand that something has to be done to deal with illegal immigration, but IMO there is no "one size fits all" cookie cutter fix that will work along the entire border without infringing on the rights of private property owners.

As for the Cities/Towns you speak of.......and the existing structures along the border, a good percent of them are vacant and/or in disrepair. Much of these dwellings (and I use that term tongue in cheek) are nothing more than "slum areas." I would think any of the citizens would love to have the chance to move from the slums they are currently living in, to an area of newly constructed dwellings in a better part of the City/Town. Those that are being occupied, as I stated, they will be compensated and other buildings/homes provided for them to move to. The actual idea that they could move away from the "high crime" zone on our border would probably appeal to all of them. As for the Mexico side, my idea will not deal with them, other than to make it almost impossible for them to "tunnel" under the existing border and come up in an abandoned building on the US side undetected by the Authorities.

The real advantage of reduced crime, smuggling of all sorts, violence and such will far outweigh the problems that might be realized.

As for the Ranchers, the interviews I have heard from them, they are begging the Federal Government to do something, anything to help them fight the flood of illegals across their land. The illegals, drug and weapons smugglers are destroying much of their land around the border. There is an unbelievable problem with littering from the Illegals and smugglers all along our Southern border. I have seen the videos showing the piles of garbage strewn across the Rancher's land as well as Government land.

I think the Ranchers would jump at the chance to realize the security of knowing they do not have to protect themselves, their families and property from the Illegals and/or smugglers, drug gangs.

As for "infringing" upon their rights as land owners...........this IS EXACTLY why the Founding Fathers came up with Eminent Domain..........not to move some old lady out of her home so Trump can build a parking lot for a Casino, but to provide for our National Defense.

Your thoughts are not that unique. When I first published this, many people had the same concerns/objections, yet those same people spent the following months/years complaining that NOTHING was being done to address the problem on our Southern border.............sigh.........
