Manson Family killer granted parole

(shouldn't this be granted qualification for parole?)

A Charles Manson follower who participated in an infamous 1969 killing has been granted parole, the Post has learned. Leslie Van Houten, 66, the youngest member of the so-called Manson Family “was granted parole suitability today by commissioners of the Board of Parole Hearings (BPH) meeting at the California Institution for Women in Corona,” according to Luis Patino, a spokesman for the California Department of Correction. The parole board will review the judgment for up to 120 days and, if its members uphold the decision, the matter will be forwarded to the California governor Jerry Brown. Brown “will have a maximum of 30 days to either uphold, reverse or modify the decision, or send it to ...Read more

Manson is probably very sick that the government doesn't want to pay extra money to treat his illness.

I am surprised that she wasn't given life without parole. The crimes Manson and his so called Family committed were horrendous. I saw a documentary about it recently. According to that Manson a would be failed Pop star among other thngs had an audition with Doris Day's Son, Terry Melcher, who was a record producer He was introduced to Melcher through his connection with The Beach Boys. He failed the audition. Manson knew where Melcher had lived and went to the house high on drugs to take revenge. What he didn't know was that Terry Melcher had sold the house to Roman Polanski and Sharon Tate. The whole thing was a tragedy to say the least.

Aging, sick and disabled prisoners are seriously limiting the numbers that can be deployed to tend the land. Of the 1,000 who typically work the fields, Cain said he's lucky if 600 to 700 are physically able to do the job. After all, a third of all inmates are older than 50, and many are so debilitated that the state spends north of $100,000 per inmate to care http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2013/07/10/cost-care-aging-prisoners/2479285/

His illness could have been treated by the electric chair but California didn't have the death penalty then
