Trump changes stance on taxing the wealthy

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said on Sunday he was open to raising taxes on the rich, backing off his prior proposal to reduce taxes on all Americans and breaking with one of his party’s core policies dating back to the 1990s.
“I am willing to pay more, and you know what, the wealthy are willing to pay more,” Trump told ABC’s “This Week.”
After effectively sealing the Republican nomination last week for the Nov. 8 presidential election, Trump has used speeches and interviews to offer more details on his policy positions.
The billionaire real estate tycoon has said he would like to see an increase in the minimum wage, although he told NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday he would prefer to see states take the lead on that front instead of the federal government.
“I don’t know how people make it on $7.25 an hour,” Trump said of the cur

Not sure how it is in the US, but in the UK there are so many
tax loop holes, that all a well off person needs is a good accountant to
legitimately avoid paying out extra tax. In that respect it ends up being the
lower and middle salary people who get stung by higher taxex when an increase
happens.

The rich just avoid paying it.

JUST SO FOLKS KNOW WHO IS PAYING TAXES HERE IN THE U.S. AND HOW MUCH

Summary of Latest Federal Income Tax Data | Tax...

EXCERPT:

The Internal Revenue Service has recently released new data on individual income taxes for calendar year 2012, showing the number of taxpayers, adjusted gross income, and income tax shares by income percentiles.[1]
The data demonstrates that the U.S. individual income tax continues to be very progressive, borne mainly by the highest income earners.

  • In 2012, 136.1 million taxpayers reported earning $9.04 trillion in adjusted gross income and paid $1.1 trillion in income taxes.
  • All income groups increased their income and taxes paid over the previous year.
  • The top 1 percent of taxpayers earned their largest share of income since 2007 at 21.9 percent of total AGI and paid their largest share of the income tax burden since the same year at 38.1 percent of total income taxes.
  • In 2012, the top 50 percent of all taxpayers (68 million filers) paid 97.2 percent of all income taxes while the bottom 50 percent paid the remaining 2.8 percent.
  • The top 1 percent (1.3 million filers) paid a greater share of income taxes (38.1 percent) than the bottom 90 percent (122.4 million filers) combined (29.8 percent).
  • The top 1 percent of taxpayers paid a higher effective income tax rate than any other group at 22.8 percent, which is nearly 7 times higher than taxpayers in the bottom 50 percent (3.28 percent).

UPDATE ON LEAD STORY:

Politics
[h=3]Sorry, suckers: Trump didn’t actually shift on taxing rich and minimum wage

[/h]
There’s a lot of chatter out there to the effect that Donald Trump is shifting his stances on taxing the rich and on the minimum wage. The only problem with this reading — which is based largely on what Trump said on the Sunday shows yesterday — is that it didn’t actually happen. On ABC’s This Week, Trump said that “I am looking at it and I haven’t decided in terms of numbers,” adding that “people have to get more.” Asked whether this was a “change,” Trump said, “well, sure, it’s a change.” But in the context of the policy debate, these phrases mean exactly nothing. Trump is saying generally that people’s wages have to rise, not that he intends to work with Congress to raise the federal minimum wage. ...Read more

After reading Trump's own statements and both Articles, the "update" is ambiguous at best in my opinion.

But, I wanted to report the whole enchilada, so............

Part of the power of negotiation is not showing your cards, maybe bluffing a little. I mean, when you play poker do you tell everyone what you're holding? Lol. You can say what you want about Trump but I'm pretty sure he ain't stupid.

:)

I'm guessing you missed him saying "Trump Towers has the BEST TACO BOWL."

Dear Donnie: FYI, there is no such thing as a taco bowl.

:)

He may not be stupid, but he ain't the sharpest knife in the drawer

IT'S A TACO SALAD Donnie boy...............a corn tortilla is held down in a deep fryer with a ladle until it fries into the shape seen......then it is lightly seasoned and serves to hold the taco salad........it IS EDIBLE. If I had a couple of buck for every one of these things I've made.........I'd buy Trump Towers and kick Donnie's butt to the curb. :)

Big difference between someone pretending to be a sports fan and gets caught as being disingenuous and you calling soft drinks soda and me calling them pop.

???

Ya got SOUP bowls..........CEREAL bowls.......and even SALAD bowls........whatcha DON'T GOT is a TACO BOWL.

Cruz may well not be knowledgeable about sports 'n' such, but Trump AIN'T NO MEXICAN FAN either!

:)

Oh, no, wait, he says he LOVES Mexicans.......... :)

If you are going to use one standard for Trump (which is whatever he says/does is just fine) and then another for the rest of the world.............well...........

I doubt that you have............but it would make you ignorant of the subject matter for sure.....just as was Cruz in his misspeak. I could not intelligently discuss the practice of brain surgery or many other things........

My POINT is the "double standard" Trump's supporters use when he acts up/misspeaks and when others do.......and I didn't call him stupid.........you used that word.......I said he may NOT BE STUPID, but he ain't the sharpest knife in the drawer. Simply put........there are a whole lot of people in America intellectually superior to the Trumpster.........or me, for that matter....
