Question for non Americans, or anyone that has lived overseas for a decent amount of time.

I was listening to Jay Sekulow earlier. Nothing that was a revelation, but more of I had enough.
What is going on in American politics the last 12 or 14 years or so is another 3 levels worse then I have ever witnessed. Its the second coming of Tammeny Hall (Tammany Hall served as an engine for graft and political corruption, perhaps most infamously under William M. "Boss" Tweed in the mid-19th century in NYC).
Its making what Nixon did look like kid stuff.

Clinton with the Lewinsky affair, Bush lying about why we needed to go into Irag. Obama circumventing the constitution, and Hillary can't tell the truth the save her life (that's why Trump is going to be elected). I understand there is always going to be lies and under the tables deals, and omissions in information, and patronage, and stalemates in congress, but has reached a level that just sickens me. Almost literally. Clinton is so power hungry, so arrogant, so egotistic, such a phony, I can't listen to her or Obama when they speak. I have not in about 5 years. I just shut it off, or turn the volume down.

I am seriously giving consideration to moving to maybe Canada or a European country, or New Zealand or Australia.
So my question is this: Is it like this in other countries? Is it this bad where you live? Worse? Better?

Good luck getting a permanent visa to Australia or New Zealand. They actually are pretty strict in their immigration practices.

My impression of US politics is Hollywood glitz and glamour and various
lovies arguing and mud slinging. Lol

Whereas British politics is like a brawl in an old boys school club. They even need
a moderator just like on CC.

Im not sure which of the two is the worse.

Here is an example, which includes the moderator (chair person)

Wow. That was some video about England politics. Some of the most entertaining 5 minutes I had all day.
Except when I was with my 9 year old daughter and I was making believe I was going to fall into the lake from a pier, I was holding her sneakers, and she said with a straight face "dad if you think your going to fall in, drop my sneakers on the pier first".

In the UK we have an entirely different system to the US. We have two major Parties. The Conservative Party and The Labour Party. They are very roughly the equivalent to Republicans and Democrats. There is also the Liberal Democratic Party
To confuse things they are not the same as what you would call Liberal or Democrat. They are midway politically between the two major parties. There are also regional parties the largest being the Scottish Nationalists.
At present the Conservatives are in Government led by David Cameron who is in my opinion the best of a bad bunch
the leader of the Labour party ,(the opposition), is Jeremy Corbyn who has only recently became leader. He is very far left
politically. Labour has always been Socialist but he has is taking it to extremes. He counts members of Hamas as friends and at present there is an issue regarding some members being Anti Semitic. I suppose the biggest Hate figure who is no longer in Government is Tony Blair (Ex Labour Party Leader), who led us into the Iraq War and lied about Weapons of mass
destruction that didn't exist among other things. At present we are engaged in a run up to a referendum next month about
whether to stay or leave the EU. Cameron is leading a big scare mongering campaign in favor of staying that is getting more desperate by the day. His latest scare is that leaving would spark off WW3 which has been greeted with much derision by our media. I could go on but I will end by saying that Politics is a dirty business wherever you live.

I wish we were! All you need to do to get here is to jump on a truck in France.

If you had asked this question before our election last October, I would have said, "Come to Canada!" Harper was an evangelical Christian, fiscally conservative, did an awesome job managing the government and the economy. He was unable to change abortion laws, but he held the line on assisted dying. He supported Israel, and did some wonderful things preventing be international wars!

But the left kept tarnishing Harper's reputation. Trudeau campaigned with the slogan, "Time for a change!" (Sound familiar?) Quebecers always vote for their own, especially the son of Pierre Elliot, who stole so much from the west, in oil revenues to give to them, and incidentally started our national debt, and no accountability just like his fiscally brain dead actor/bouncer/snow board instructor son! That's Justin's qualifications to be PM. (Prime Minister). Oh wait- he has a degree in French and English Lit, and a teacher's certificate.

His election promise was to spend more money on infrastructure, around $10 billion, a modest deficit, he promised! He is well over $100 billion, and no one really know where the money has gone.

Well, some of it was spent to bring in 25,000 Syrian Muslim refugees, who were living in apartments, had cars, jobs, etc. The Kurds, and Christians were passed over, along with genuine refugees living hand to mouth in refugee camps. More Muslims to gratefully vote for the man who gave them more than any disabled person or injured war vet gets. Did I mention Trudeau is a Muslim, with a brother who makes films of the plight of the poor Palestinians who are being oppressed by the evil Israel? Or his Muslim campaign managers, who he gave plum positions in government to! And on and in it goes.

But hey, the young people love Trudeau! He has looks, does selfies and yoga poses and bumbles his way through prepped quantum physics to prove he is not a dummie! Oh, did I mention Trudeau is a trust fund kid, but hired two nannies at tax payers expense so Sophie could have lots of time to pick out authentic Canadian designer clothing, accompany Justin around the world, and sing stupid little songs to Obama that she wrote, off pitch despite her claims to a music degree!

The good thing is that the west is ready to revolt and separate, should he cross one line! His dad raped the west during the seventies recession, and Justin's cavalier attitude shows it won't be much longer till he starts it again. He wants to change our electoral procedures radically, without support of other parties, or a national referendum! Even the liberal media has come out heavily against him! But he has a huge mandate, because 40% of Canadians elected him to over 55% of the seats!

i don't know much about the east, but the west is physically beautiful, once you hit the Rocky Mountains! BC is much warmer than east of the Rockies. I'm in zone 7 in interior BC, in Edmonton I was in zone 2b to 3a. That's discontinuous permafrost! It snowed yesterday in Calgary, the winters are cold and long, although warmer than when I grew up as a child.

Politically we have a parliamentary system, with 5 parties in parliament. (Conservatives - centre, Liberals left, NDP- more left, Greens, radically left, and the Bloc Quebecois - separatist and very, very left.)We have a useless, overpaid and unelected senate, a favourite for patronage appointments for rewards to followers who served them well. Harper refused to appoint new senators, who are in for life, barring criminal charges, which has happened a lot lately.

Universal health care is great! I have used more than my share, and it remains always out top value. As for actually immigrating here, not so much! Unless you have some rare skill, are a hockey player, or married to a Canadian, or you are a Muslim "refugee" forget it! My American DIL took over 3 years to get her permanent resident card, and even we got investigated. Not so hard for the Syrians. Many with serious criminal records got in, but as long as they vote for Trudeau, it is ok!!

So basically, the Canadian government doesn't want you, winters are cold, and universal health care is great, despite fear mingering about it by right wing American extremists! I love my country, but we have many years ahead of inept, leftist government ahead, I would say- keep looking! There has to be something better than Canada right now!

It was the cold more then anything that would have prevented me from moving there. I like the people and the country is beautiful in many areas. But I never get in anyway, as you said. My niece is currently attending Mcgill in Montreal. I am only about 45 miles from the border and 80 miles from Montreal. Closer to me then Philly is when I lived in NYC. When I need to get to a big city to feel like I am in civilization again, I hop in in my car and I'm off. There in about 1 hour and 45 minutes, well closer to 2 with the border crossing. I love it there.
But makes no diff. They don't want me, and I don't like the weather.
