Yea not all soldiers are worth remembering. Some really want to help the world, change things for the better, and just protect people and help improve people's lives; some do it for the money and the attention; others join because they just want to kill people.
My great grandfather served in World War 2. My grandfather served in Egypt. They both believed in protecting civilians, providing security to those who can't provide it for themselves, and fighting invaders. When Hitler was rampaging through Europe he was the aggressor. Men and boys from the UK went to stop his invasions, to stop his atrocities. Many of them retained their sense of right and wrong and did what was right, but others -- many others -- took the opportunity to rape German women; to commit theft; and to murder needlessly.
I'll remember good soldiers who fight for good causes; who protect; who retain their humility and their right-judgement even when they have the power and the opportunity to do otherwise. But the others: those who fight only for the sake of fighting; who murder without regret and guilt; who can sleep easy after dropping a bomb in a building full of innocents; those who do not question -- even secretly in their minds -- warsin which they belong to the aggressing party: those kinds of soldiers do not deserve remembrance.
I don't know you personally, but from your picture you have a gorgeous little child with you and you look to be doing well for yourself. Single parenthood must not be easy. All the best to you.
I'm sorry for your loss.
