My opinion is that if the father didn't draw blood, this could be a great teaching mechanism for his son. His son even favors this method over ineffective forms of discipline (things being taken away, sent to his room, etc...). Drawing blood makes this seem a little overboard, but I don't know if this is necessarily "child abuse."

Thoughts?

I like the idea if used properly - My dad used to box with me lol - But, drawing blood to that extent is abuse in my opinion. I don't really see how it could be viewed otherwise.

It should not be used as a "disciplinary tool" in my opinion. As in, the kid disobeyed his parents, did something wrong that deserved discipline.

Now, as a form of exercise and teaching self discipline and self defense? Yes, great way to do that, and great way to spend quality time together.

But not as a "disciplinary tool."

Just my take

"edited to say"

The child abuse question is open to debate on this one...........I suspect, in most Cities/States these days the Child Services people would see it as a form of abuse........

So repeatedly punch your child in the head and torso while talking crap to him, and then call it discipline? Sounds closer to bullying and child abuse.

Or what happens if the kid out boxes the parent? Now the kids gets to beat down the parent as a REWARD for getting in trouble for doing something wrong.

This isn't discipline, this is an excuse to smack your kid around. It won't teach discipline because there is still a chance the child could come out on top. So the concept of consequences gets lost. People are ridiculous. Proper methods of discipline have been studied and researched by professionals, yet everyone thinks they know better. Or just uses it as an excuse to make a stir on FB to get his 15 mins of fame.

Totally inappropriate punishment. The Kid has a backside, if you must use physical punishment, use it. My take is that if your child is skipping school on a frequent basis, there is a problem that needs to be mentally addressed. No amount of physical punishment will resolve it.

I would never do something like this with my son for the purpose of discipline. Maybe it's a personality thing and it works for these two. If it is something that bonds a father and son and no one gets hurt maybe it's ok. Drawing blood tho seems a little over board. One thing for sure is that this kid will be tough....maybe even a warrior someday that protects the sheep.

I can understand teaching your kid to fight because he may have to sometime but this seems a bit excessive to me. This only teaches him that conflict should be resolved with violence

Inappropriate and ineffective at best. Making a video just plain dumb.

Certainly not dicipline but abuse is an over reach.

Discpline needs to be clear and distinct from sports activities.

Beat the crap out of your kids and then post it on social media to keep them from going to hell? I don't recall reading that scripture

It appears to me that the father is taking out his frustrations out on his son. Perhaps the next time it will be without gloves. Looks like child abuse to me.

I'm not sure it's fair to assume or predict that "next time it will be without gloves". He clearly made a bad decision in how he "punished his son", but what makes you think that next time he's just going to straight up fist fight him?

If a parent uses a paddle to spank their child, is it fair to say "perhaps next time the parent uses a machete"?
