Unfortunately only a very small remnant of our nation abides with the fear of God before their eyes; the rest do not.

Matthew 5:33-35
"Again, you have heard that it was said to the people long ago, 'Do not break your oath, but fulfill to the Lord the vows you have made.'But I tell you, do not swear an oath at all: either by heaven, for it is God's throne;or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King.

Ive always felt weird about the pledge of allegiance : p Dont get me wrong, Im not bashing those that are patriotic. I just always felt weird by the idea of pledging allegiance. I dont like the idea of swearing to anything, I generally like to avoid promises in general. There are only a few I plan to take. I will make a promise if I ever get married, for one.

Im not against being patriotic, though I dont really feel that Im all that patriotic. I care about my nation of course, and those in it. But I dont feel anything beyond that myself. I dunno if its right or wrong, its just how I feel.

That being said, I cant stand the "I hate America" crowd in the progressive left community. It doesnt matter what the nation does, they will "hate America" just to be on the alternative side of those on the right. I hate it when people take the alternative view as the intellectual "free thinking" path. They are following whatever it is their peers are doing, just like everyone else : p

I like people like you. There are things that are black and white and there are things that are not.

It's my opinion that a pledge of allegiance to your country is a good thing. There's no reason why we should produce a Bible to be fighting our patriotism. On the contrary, the Bible should be the foundation of our pledge to our country.

I never got the whole pledge of allegiance thing....I agree with Demi777 we shouldn't make oaths especially to countries that are ruled by fickle men....especially with the current path of America I would not want to pledge allegiance to a country that endulges gay rights, aborts babies, entertains warfare as a means of dominance and economic prosperity....

My soul would feel icky pledging to that junk......yea there is nothing wrong with patriotism but making oaths to a flag/country is almost like idolatry if one thinks about it and in effect you are indirectly condoning that nations' beliefs and especially if it has contrary views towards God's word,.....I would hesitate pledging allegiance.

I'm not a US hater btw....just sharing something to think about....above all pledge allegiance to God over country :) As nations will fail but God won't.

Especially a country that is that corrupt and will be destroyed. Have you not noticed that people are making a Cult out of a flag? Burn the german flag in germany..noone cares because its only coloured cotton.
Burn the american flag in america and get shot.
Plus the USA doesnt stand for any of the things i that pledge anyways

I like one point you made here, its not our politicians I put my faith in : p They are like me, they have done and will do wrongly, and not everyone who claims to follow Jesus actually follows Him (like Obama).

I have thought about the flag and idolatry as well. Though I dont think the flag is idolatry itself, I can see how it could become idolatry. Though for the most part I think people are okay as long as the dont adore the flag : p

Burning the Norwegian flag is illegal. Burning the American flag is not illegal. Anyways, while we're living in this wicked world we need the kind of protection only our country can give us. I don't think the good Lord will disagree.

Oh no, dont get me wrong. I strongly appreciate the freedoms we have here in the US. Im not bashing patriotism at all, my whole point was just the pledge itself, always felt like a weird concept to me : p I mean its not my nation that I want to place my devotion into. I like my country, I do not hate it at all. I just dont feel like the pledge is neccissary, at least not as a pledge of devotion. Comradery with your kinsmen is a good thing and all, to an extent, though.

How is pledging to provide liberty and justice under God for all a bad thing?

What you said is true! People get all emotionally stirred up by a piece of cotton but fail to analyze/realize some of their country's beliefs/values don't line up with their own or the Bible.

That's why I say don't be dedicated to anything especially countries completely except God, because like Yeraza said politicians are good at stirring emotions and getting away with doing evil by playing on people's emotions. Look at what some Christians who supported Hitler did in the name of patriotism they directly/indirectly supported a mass murderer.....a lesson we can all learn from. :)

Its the first line of the pledge that bothers me : p I mean its not the values of the US Im devoted to : p I agree with freedom and liberty, but that itself is not what leads to right at all times, you know?

It iskt about a flag. The flag is a visible reminder of what isn't seen.

I can love my country. I love Germany and America. I would fight for it in case of a attack. BUT I will not put an oath on either one of them anymore.

A pledge is more about a persons honor than it is about the thing they pledge their honor too.

It isn't but don't you think the order of "pledging allegiance" is even whack?

First you pledge to the american flag, then sometimes 2nd the Christian flag, then 3rd/last the Bible?

I mean even the order is screwed up! It should be Christianflag/Bible 1st! then the American flag or whatever nationality....

Plus the hand over the heart thing is derived from freemasonry's lion paw hand motion where they clutch their left breast....
not to mention the colors of the flag were setup by the founding fathers to show red and blue paths of freemasonry with white being the guiding light of lucifer......

There is a lot of things they don't write about in history books to cover up the truth that America was never founded as a "Christian" nation but as a masonic nation with the guise of Christianity/biblical principles included in to aid the deception....this may tick some american's off but read up on Thomas payne, thomas jefferson, washington, franklin and the like they were all freemasons who espoused those viewpoints....

Nah. I don't believe in all that freemasonry stuff. It is about a persons honor. Is your honor important? Is your word your bond? Do you take your personal convictions seriously? That is your heart.
