I am not for banning guns completely. There should be background checks, people should have to wait four days before receiving their guns. If someone is a convicted criminal, on a terrorists watch list, or seriously mentally ill, they should not be allowed to have a gun. Assault rifles that are so dangerous that shoot out bullet after bullet, they should not be allowed for ordinary civilians outside the military. Assault rifles should only be for military use, machine guns are so dangerous. People should be able to have rifles for hunting, and perhaps handguns for protection. They should take a class on gun safety, that should be mandatory.

Do you really want blood on your hands? Think about it. Think about everything Jesus said. he taught us to turn the other cheek and love, pray for our enemies. Love each other. He came so we can have life, life to the fullest.
By the way, Seraph, I fully agree with you about the gun safety class. It would be a breath of fresh air for a conservative such as myself to see liberals taking more of an interest in gun ownership and operation and learning about the firearm laws of their state. An informed citizen doesn't so easily fall prey to the misinformation politicians attempt to feed us on a regular basis, whether it be about guns or otherwise.

cars kill even more people

ban cars
How many people die as a result of intentional hit-and-runs? I know you're being sarcastic, but it's unfair to use that argument when most car accidents are accidental... Mass shootings, school shootings, murder, etc.. are never accidental. Not quite the same thing.

NO! NO! NO!

They can not teach kids to read. How on earth could they teach them gun safety?
Gun safety should be learned at home. My dad taught me about handling guns and gun safety at a very early stage of my life, and I have to say I have benefited from that. Everybody should know basic gun handling, not only for self defence, but also for hunting...even us girls should take more interest in this:)

Jenny, Men like your Dad are vanishing. Today most young people get their firearms training from video games, the internet, or on the streets. I agree that everyone should have firearms training, but with current state of the modern family, I think it's time to require formal training from a certified expert.

As a youngish gun enthusiast who knows other youngish gun enthusiasts my age (my friends, #2ndAmendmentSubculture) I have to take exception.

It may be geography (Dixie), but most of my buddies either A.) grew up around guns with responsible gun-owning role models or B.) have underwent serious instruction by well-qualified experts at gun ranges, pawn shops, etc. Heck, I'm a stickler for gun safety, but some of my buddies who are younger than me are even more radical about it.

Obviously, I cannot speak for all people around my age, but this notion that we learn everything about guns from Fallout 4, Chris Pratt, and "the streets" simply isn't so. We've erected our sub-culture to repel this sort of idiocy. Just ask our gods, Mr. Colion Noir, Nutnfancy, Rob Pincus, et al.

Which brings me to another point- the internet isn't necessarily a bad place to begin learning about firearms. Is it the end all to be all? Absolutely not. In fact, most gun information outlets on the internet stress safety and real-world training/experience above all else. Heck, if there is a gun review in which a weapon is not properly cleared and checked, the reviewer is pilloried in the comment section. It's an atmosphere of almost constant reinforcement of responsibility and gun safety standards.

Now that I think of it, most of the fatalities I know of that have resulted from negligent discharge are middle aged to elderly men, not millennials.

In short, gun control measures will not solve the "problem" of purposeful or accidental death by guns. All they will do is give people another excuse to take away the liberties of others.

Um, I'm afraid I was dishonest, I gave a wrong impression of my parents and my family. My parents love me and my sister very much. I was rarely spanked. I was never spanked at school. There was an old belt of my Dad's that was missing the poky point part in the buckle that my mom used to spank me. My Dad was often away at work, he worked hard, and smart, to support the family. We also had some nice vacations, and a lot of children are too poor for vacation, I am aware a lot of people did not have what I had as a child, some people had more, but a lot of people had less. The problem is my dad is neat, my mom is messy, I used to be messy but now I am acting more like my dad, cleaning up stuff. When I was a child I had a messy room, both mom and dad were angry with me for it.

Anyway, the parent who spanked me told me why they were spanking me, (sometimes my dad did spank me) and they would hug me afterward and tell me they loved me, and they did what they did to discipline me so I would be good and not do stuff that's wrong. They took us to Disney World, Busch Gardens, Sea world, and to North Carolina Great smoky Mountains. My parents made Christmas and birthdays special, they loved me and played with me.

On Friday evenings we got Lil' Ceasar's pizza and a blockbuster movie. After second grade, in third grade I started going to public school. I was very shy and had trouble talking. I acted a bit weird because I was scared of all the horror stories i heard about public school in private school. I was sent to the school psychiatrist. I learned that the school was good and there was nothing wrong with it. I had a learning disability and was put in special education classes in 4th grade, and in 5th grade I had the same teacher. That lady was an excellent teacher, she helped me out a lot. She was the one that got me started with writing stories. I became interested in creative writing because of her.

I started taking art classes outsdie of school because my mom wanted a hobby for me and my sister. At first the lessons were for my sister, but she had little artistic talent, the art teacher said I had talent, so I started drawing, she helped me draw, I have been taking classesa nd drawing, painting since then. I took art lessons in high school and after graduating, but I've never been to college. My mom has really supported my art, she has bought me a lot of supplies and books, and lessons. Sometimes I had a bad attitude, when i was in middle school, I was rude and pouty to my Sunday school teacher, and my mom threatened to spank me unless I apologized to her. SO I did apologize.

Sometimes I can be rude and grumpy, I have had a bad attitude in the past. The Lord himself disciplined me. He scared me with nightmares. He also took away my pain of depression and filled me with love. I have mental illness in the family on both sides, I have been depressed and psychotic in the past. The Lord has been my savior, my healer.

wow. After reading your previous post, I inferred you had been raised in a "hell on earth" type of home.

Reading this post implies you were raised in a loving, caring home, where you received greater blessings and opportunities than 80% of all other homes.

Quite a disconnect going on here...

And, for the record, I don't believe God "punishes" us with nightmares, etc..... that is not something a loving parent would do. I think the nightmares were your own doing.

I hope and pray you will overcome your anger issues, from wherever they originate, and that you will learn, and live in the love and peace of God.... blessings to you.
