It puzzles me how the side that seems to want Civil War is also the side that discourages gun ownership in their ranks.

It's obvious. They will have a gun at hand anyways. If guns are banned, rioting gets easier.

That is because its easier to gain public support and create martyrs when an unarmed person is shot as it can not be justified as self defence.
