The US has often engaged in the act of Regime change when certain leaders of certain Countries have been at odds with us. I am trying to remember those times when this action actually proved to be a positive.
I believe that in the example of both Germany and Italy, during WWII, it would be fair to say those instances proved to be a positive result for the whole world. I would also think that Panama would be graded a positive. However, I am having a hard time thinking of others.
I suppose I would have to include the Revolution of 1776! Which led to the establishment of the US......
WWI probably had some positive results as well. I also guess I could include the National Elections of 2016 here in the US, but, to be honest, the jury is still out on that particular regime change, as we do not yet know how it will play out.
Are there any that I am missing?
I don't like it when our Leaders tell us they are going to war and justify this action by telling us that we must establish Democratic Governments in the Countries we are going to attack. It just doesn't seem to ever have the desired effect. Does it?
Regime change and Nation building are pretty much the same are they not? Well, I suppose Regime change could be limited to destroying the current Leadership of a Country, and then leaving, while Nation building would mean staying around to install a new, more desirable Leadership in that Country. So they can be different.....or.....go hand in hand.
