((from Democracy Now, January 20 headlines))

Former Texas Governor Rick Perry also underwent his confirmation hearing to be Energy Department head Thursday. At the start of the hearing, Washington Senator Maria Cantwell reminded Perry that he had once called for the elimination of the very agency he was now tapped to head.

Sen. Maria Cantwell: "Congratulations on your nomination. In case you may have forgotten, you once called for the abolishment of this agency. I suspect that now, having had a chance to learn about the importance of this department, you have a very different opinion."

That was Senator Maria Cantwell. Later in the hearing, former Governor Perry said he now regrets calling for the agency to be eliminated.

Rick Perry: "My past statements, made over five years ago, about abolishing the Department of Energy do not reflect my current thinking. In fact, after being briefed on so many of the vital functions of the Department of Energy, I regret recommending its elimination."

Trump has selected some very qualified for his other cabinet members. IMHO, the selection of Perry for Secretary of Energy, he let qualifications slip through the crack.

5 years ago,we were engulfed in the slime of the Obama regime. What was the battle Texas was in under the POLICIES of the anti oil regime that was waging war with the USA?

I suspect the trump admin has a way different agenda than the anti american Obama disaster.

It ain't like Perry is the ONLY ONE to have a change of mind/heart right?

Will folks apply the same standard of judgement to Trump? I mean, goodness, how many changes of mind/heart did he go through in the last two years?

I don't really care..........but if folks are gonna laugh at/criticize Perry..........hey..........enough to go around?

Has anyone actually checked to see what his experience is concerning Energy Production? As Governor of Texas (lots of energy production there), and/or in the Private Sector?

just wondering.........

Off hand, I suspect he has more experience in this area than the majority of the folks on that Committee.......or here on CC, and way more than Trump or Clinton, OR OBAMA!

Wait what? Seems to me his grades are still sealed. Not to mention his radical ties to terrorists.

Yes! I love criticism when it is consistently applied across the board. Gives credibility to the critic.
