Police confirm 5 dead, 40 injured in Westminster attack, ‘Islamic terrorism’ assumed

“We think we know who the attacker is,” Acting Deputy Commissioner & national lead for Counter Terrorism Policing Mark Rowley said but stated that they were not willing to divulge the assailant’s name at this time, though they did admit that it “Islamic terrorism is our assumption.”

Police have also named the officer who died as 48-year-old husband and father PC Keith Palmer, a 15-year veteran of the force.

What we know

 • Five people are dead, including a police officer and the alleged attacker
 • Several others have "catastrophic" injuries after a car reportedly mounted the pavement on Westminster Bridge and "tried to mow people down"
 • A woman was treated after "falling" from bridge into the River Thames
 • A police officer is dead after being stabbed inside Parliament grounds
 • The alleged assailant is dead after being shot by armed police
 • At least 40 people have been injured
 • Police are treating the incident as terrorism
 • Police believe there was only one attacker
 • PM Theresa May is chairing a COBRA emergency meeting

Five people have died, including one woman, the alleged attacker and a police officer.
Many others obtained "catastrophic" injuries, St Thomas' Hospital junior doctor Colleen Anderson told reporters

“There were people across the bridge. There were some with minor injuries, some catastrophic. Some had injuries they could walk away from or who have life-changing injuries," Anderson said.

Mark Rowley, assistant commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, said the police are "satisfied at this stage it looks like there was only one attacker."

London Ambulance Service says it has treated at least 10 patients on Westminster Bridge.

An eyewitness has told Sky News he saw a body "face down" in the Thames. Witnesses said people either jumped or were knocked over the side of the bridge as the car mounted the pavement and struck a number of pedestrians.

A spokesman for the Port of London Authority, which looks after safety on the river, said a female member of the public had been recovered from the water near Westminster bridge after she "fell" or "jumped" in.

"A female member of the public was recovered alive from the water, but with serious injuries. She has been brought ashore and is undergoing urgent medical treatment. The working assumption is that she fell or jumped from the bridge."

Shocking videos and photographs show people lying on the bridge, bleeding heavily, with members of the public rushing to their aid.
See more pictures from the terrorist incident in Westminster
An eyewitness, Richard Tice, described what he saw to RT.
“I came out of Westminster Tube at about 2:45pm when police were locking down the tube, ushering people out away from Parliament. I was ushered onto Westminster Bridge, and then I looked across the bridge, onto the west pavement,” he recalled.
READ MORE: ‘Stay under cover!’: Police evacuation captured in dramatic footage after Westminster attack (VIDEO)
“For the whole length of the bridge, from south to north, there were people lying on the ground and I was then told that a car had driven from the south end all the way up the pavement to the north end of the bridge. I counted at least eight people clearly injured on the ground.”

Another witness described seeing a middle-aged man carrying a knife running towards the Palace of Westminster.
Kamal Alam, a Syrian military analyst whose office isn’t far from where the attack took place, also spoke with RT.
“I thought it’s just some kind of school drill, but within a few seconds heard what sounded like gunshots and a lot of screaming, and all of a sudden there [were] dozens of armed policemen telling everyone to run away from Parliament Square and Westminster Tube Station,” he said.
READ MORE: ‘If you work in Parliament, expect to come under attack at some point’ – MP
Jayne Wilkinson told Sky News: "We were taking photos of Big Ben and we saw all the people running towards us, and then there was an Asian guy in about his 40s carrying a knife about seven or eight inches long.
"And then there were three shots fired, and then we crossed the road and looked over. The man was on the floor with blood.
"He had a lightweight jacket on, dark trousers and a shirt.
"He was running through those gates, towards parliament, and the police were chasing him."

According to Doug Weeks, terrorism expert at London Metropolitan University, the attack, while softened by the high security presence in the area, could have been far bloodier.
“Well certainly within the Parliament compound itself, that is by far one of the most secure areas within London. There are numerous police officers and other security personnel that work in that area as well as around that area, thus it’s not surprising that the police have a very rapid response to this incident,” Weeks told RT.

Following the attack, Number 10 said Prime Minister Theresa May was safe. The spokesman declined to say where May was when the attack took place.
It is understood, however, she was rushed to a car 40 yards from the gates outside parliament where the shots were fired minutes after the attack. She was ushered by at least eight armed undercover police, some with their firearms drawn.
The leader of the House of Commons David Lidington said the alleged assailant was shot by armed police "inside the parliament perimeter."
Parliament and the surrounding area were placed on lockdown. Staff inside parliament were told to stay inside their offices.

The London Eye was stopped and temporarily held all its "guests" within the attraction.
An air ambulance landed in Parliament Square shortly after the incident.
London Ambulance Service deputy director of operations Pauline Cranmer said it has "declared a major incident and our priority is to assess patients and ensure that they are treated and taken to hospital as soon as possible."

It's 4 dead (including the attacker) and 20 injured. Some of the injuries are described as "catastrophic". The woman who was in the river was pulled alive, she had apparently jumped in. One person who was hit by the assailant's car ended up under a bus - I'm assuming among the death toll.

Theresa May was rushed away to her car by armed guards back to Downing Street where an emergency "cobra" meeting was held in response to the attack.

One question I have; why in the world was a policeman who was guarding parliament unarmed??? Senseless, and how can he "guard" anything without a weapon?

Re: Police confirm 5 dead, 40 injured in Westminster attack, ‘Islamic terrorism’ assu

What gets me is our media in Canada. They were lots of reports of "terrorism." But what kind of terrorism? No one would say! I found out later, Trudeau, our Muslim Caliph, made it a law to never put the words "Muslim" and "terrorism" in the same sentence!

So I waited for the name to come out. Oh yes, it was a Muslim name, the man who killed everyone, even if he was British born, he was radicalized.

And then ISIS claimed responsibilty, and I thought "Surely they will talk about how this Muslim was radicalized!" But nope, nary a word.

If you Americans and Brits have it bad, imagine that last week, Imams in Montreal and Toronto condemned Jews, and said "Kill the Jews!" From the pulpits! Imagine they were reported for hate speech, and nothing was done.

Now imagine today that Emperor Trudeau and a trusted Muslim MP finally brought forward a motion to condemn Islamaphobia. (Today, after the attack by a Muslim in Britian.) But never defining what Islamaphobia means. Does this mean, we can't even talk about a Muslim killing people randomly in some kind of insane madness in Britain now?

Imagine the majority of Canadians are against M103, because it gives Muslims for special treatment, and it never defines Islamaphonia. Now imagine, the party whip gets his way, and the motion passes. That was my world, today!

Goodbye to Canada the way it was! Hello to the Caliphate gaining a big foothold in Canada.

PS. I never voted for this idiot Trudeau, nor his idiot father.

The latest report I have seen is that another person has died from their injuries. Many of the 29 people injured were tourists including some French School Children. The person who did this was born in Britain and had a Criminal record. He was shot dead at the scene. Seven people have been arrested.

The guy was born in Britain (let's not call him British - he isn't/wasn't) but didn't go to the usual places where they radicalise - probably done here on the internet or in a mosque. 8 arrested in Birmingham, probably radicalised there, it's a Muslim hotspot.

We wonder why things are going the way they are...but it's all there in God's word - it has to happen before Jesus returns. Doesn't make it any easier to take but it has to happen.

Churchill, Nelson, Palmerston, and other great defenders of the realm are all twisting in their graves as we speak. A sad state of affairs for Britain and the world.

What is more sad is how so many of us seem to accept sequential terror attacks as the new normal.

Re: Police confirm 5 dead, 40 injured in Westminster attack, ‘Islamic terrorism’ assu

''No evidence’ Isis involved in Parliament terror attack, police say''

There is no evidence of a link between so-called Islamic State or al-Qaeda with last week’s terror attack in London, the Metropolitan Police has said.
In a statement, police said there is ‘clearly an interest in jihad’ but nothing so far to suggest that attacker Khalid Masood was directed by terrorist groups.
Masood drove a car across the pavement of Westminster bridge killing three before stabbing a police officer to death outside Parliament.
Police ride on bus to catch law-breaking motorists
Isis claimed responsibility for the attack in the aftermath.
However, police are now saying that although there are links in the way the attack was carried out, there is no formal link between the killings and the terror group.
Masood is believed to have driven at 76mph down the bridge during the attack.
It was over within 82 seconds after he was shot dead by police.

He was last heard from on WhatsApp at 2.37pm, minutes before he started his attack.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu, senior national coordinator for UK Counter Terrorism Policing, said: ‘At this stage I have no evidence he discussed this with others.
‘There is no evidence that Masood was radicalised in prison in 2003, as has been suggested; this is pure speculation at this time. Whilst I have found no evidence of an association with IS or AQ, there is clearly an interest in Jihad.
‘In 2005 he changed his name to Khalid Masood.
‘His last criminal offence was 2003 and he was not a current subject of interest or part of the current domestic or international threat picture for either the security service or CT Policing.
‘I know when, where and how Masood committed his atrocities, but now I need to know why. Most importantly, so do the victims and families.’

Met Police say 'no evidence of link' between Isis and London terror attack | Metro News

At present the evidence appears to be that this action was the result of a crazed murderer, not those of one affiliated with a terrorist group. The police now need to focus on the motive and how to prevent future attacks of this kind.

Well, judging from what we actually do know, we have a man changing his name from an English one, into an Arabic sounding name.

He is using his car as a weapon, like IS has been advocating for quite some time.

He is using a knife against soft targets, just like IS has been promoting.

He is also attacking symbols important to a Western country.

Even there's no link between him and IS, I'd say he was clearly being influenced by people, organizations or countries that doesn't have the Western society's best interest in mind.
