I'm not all that familiar with Canada's parliamentary system, however from that article it would seem that the motion being passed would be similar to a resolution being passed here in the US. It gives politicians the opportunity to grandstand without anything really happening since the resolution does not carry the weight of law.

The book of Islam is all hate. They are hateful people. Wolves in sheeps clothing. Simmering on the inside. Patient they are. Slowly and surely gaining power in the West.
Will be praying.

Agree with OnceFallen... Motion M-103 is not a "Bill" and has no weight of law. However, it is a foot in the door for stupidity.

Which reminds me, I need to write to my Member of Parliament. He made an excellent speech against the Motion which he should reiterate.

The biggest problem I have with this Motion is that "Islamophobia" is not defined. I wouldn't accept it anyway, but with such a vague key term, it is more than a foot in the door... it's the whole elephant in the room. Or is it a camel?

Mohammed was an adulterous war mongering pedophile. After watching the lawyer's explanation of the bill, I am relieved to discover I can still tell the truth about Mohammed without fear of being arrested for doing so :)

Now Islamophobia needs to be defined. According to Pat Condell, it is a ridiculous word and I agree. A phobia is an irrational fear. The Satanic Muslim book known as the Koran actually instructs them to strike fear into us by their acts of violence against us as they attempt to gain world domination, which is their stated goal.

As I see it, because "Islamophobia" isn't defined, it becomes easier for some persons to support such a measure with a very different definition in mind than what the author had in mind. I'm sure that some conservatives (by Canadian standards) supported the motion.

There already laws on the books to protect religion. Canada does not have free speech the way the US does. Its a partial free speech. I haven't found out all the details yet. It remains to be seen if there will be jail time if Islam is criticized .

There have been lots of protests, which is heartening. People are not taking this sitting down, which is good to know. It does make me wonder why something similar was never put in place to protect Christianity from "hate speech." Listening to people say completely ignorant things like Jesus was a zombie and we are cannibals and God had sex with Mary gets tiring after a while :p It was interesting that Obama had no problem identifying Christians (Roman Catholics?) as abusers during the Crusades and Inquisition etc, but he never allowed the words "Islamic terrorism" to come from his mouth. Of course he had people known to have direct ties to Islamic terrorism working in the White House.

doesn't 'phobia' carry with it the idea of an unfounded fear?

Just shows the real problem isn't Islamophobia, but Islamophobia phobia.

I think the desired aim is to stop people from explicitly inciting violence
against a specific group (Muslims) which is ironic because they explicitly
instruct violence toward anyone who does not submit to them.

I believe they are getting a foothold and are setting up too take over.Canada is more like Europe, more willing not to rock the boat.
Well have you considered the potential of trying to become a researcher for this project if you hold Canadian citizenship also? Governments, generally speaking, overspend money for such study projects. Could be pretty lucrative. Plus then you could skew the results in your favor too.

Hold the phone a second... if you don't have a green card, does that make you an illegal immigrant? Lol never met one from north of the border.
