The last few days have featured reports on the fate of the WALL.

FIRST: The building of the wall isn't really a correct statement, as there is already several hundred miles of wall already built. It would be more correct to call it the COMPLETION of the WALL.........right?

Dems are firm in their commitment to not vote to fund the completion of the wall.

Not all Repubs are on board either, and their numbers increase when the discussion of the Border Adjustment Tax is brought up. Several Repubs say they will NOT vote to pass any such Tax.

Now, Dems love Taxes............so, is it possible some of them might break ranks and vote to Enact the Border Adjustment Tax even though it is intended to pay for the completion of the wall? They might. And, then, when the money starts coming in they can simply use the money to pay for their pet projects/handouts instead of the wall.

Both Ryan and McConnell are reported to have questioned the actual completion of the Wall, and are trying to focus on other projects/issues.

If this falls through....then I will really be disappointed, and I think it will be a serious blow to Trump as well.

One thing is for sure.............Mexico is not going to pay for it............and too many in Congress do not want to pay for it either...........

I heard that a Website has been set up to collect Private Funds to fund the Completion of the Wall........but that's gonna be a whole lotta fundraising right?

One Article I found...........

(excerpt)

During last year's US presidential election, Donald Trump bragged, "Nobody builds walls better than me." The former real-estate mogul went on to promise: "And I will build them very inexpensively." Now, as president, he wants to act on those bold claims.
The race to build the wall along the United States' border with Mexico will start on March 6: At that point contractors can submit design plans to the Department of Homeland Security on the agency's homepage - contracts are to be awarded in April, and the wall finished two years later. Depending on what day it is, Trump has said that the wall will be anywhere from 10 to 30 meters (33 to 100 feet) high. The only thing that is certain at this point: "It will be a wall, not a fence."

Another Article..........excerpt:

House Republicans and Donald Trump's team are coalescing around a multi-billion dollar plan to make good on the president-elect's campaign vows to build a wall between the United States and Mexico, according to top Republican lawmakers and aides.

Republican leaders, in tandem with Trump’s transition staff, are considering using a 2006 law signed by former President George W. Bush that authorized the construction of 700 miles-plus of “physical barrier” on the southern border. The law was never fully implemented and did not include a sunset provision, allowing Trump to pick up where Bush left off — with the help of new money from Congress.

.......and, believe it or not........at one time the Dems supported the wall.........

A majority of Senate Democrats, including their new leader, Chuck Schumer, approved the Secure Fence Act. The legislation called for double-layer fences, "additional physical barriers," and new surveillance equipment along five particular stretches of the southern border. Endorsing it may have amounted to necessary election-year politics. But some lawmakers didn't just allow their votes to do the talking. "Democrats are solidly behind controlling the border, and we support the border fence," California senator Dianne Feinstein declared at the time. She is one of seven Democrats in the upper chamber today to have supported the measure—one lawmaker short of the eight that Republicans need to meet a 60-vote threshold to secure new money for that wall. It's a fact the majority is sure to dangle before the public as Congress takes up the issue.

HOWEVER........NOW they have changed their minds............ :)

(excerpt)

Chuck Schumer is warning Mitch McConnell not to include money for a border wall with Mexico in a must-pass government funding bill next month, the first step in what could turn into a pitched shutdown fight over the Southern wall promoted by President Donald Trump.

Led by Senate Minority Leader Schumer, top Senate Democrats are insisting that Majority Leader McConnell avoid demanding either funding for a border wall or another "poison pill" rider such as defunding Planned Parenthood as a condition of funding the government. McConnell will need Schumer to deliver at least eight votes to avert a shutdown by April 28, and Schumer is already suggesting that things could get ugly if Republicans play hardball and try to jam Democrats.

24 billion dollars, every year, is wired from the United States to Mexico. Most of it by illegals. Wouldn't a 10% tax on those transactions make 2.4 billion? Would that not be making Mexico pay for the wall?

In Theory, it would be an indirect way to have Mexico pay for it, however, in practice......it would not withstand a Court Challenge on Constitutional basis.

Imposing a specific Tax on a particular group of people based on their Race/National Origin would be struck down by the Courts. As well, Dems would never vote for it, and probably a few Repubs would not either.......because they will not vote to Enact a new Tax of any sort.

Also.........Jews send loads of money to family/friends in Israel, and do so without paying a Tax on those funds. All sorts of Americans send money to all sorts of people around the world, and do so without paying a Tax on those funds.

Shoot, even the U.S. Government sends money to dozens of Nations......

In Theory...........it would seem to be a good idea........however...........

What race is a Mexican?

Anyways, we have specific taxes targeted at specific nations. We have had a tax on the importation of tires manufactured in China for the past 20 years.

President Donald Trump’s border wall project could get funding through an unlikely method: voluntary donations from private citizens.
The newly-founded America First Foundation, Inc., has started accepting donations to fund “the great wall of America,” with the ultimate goal of raising $21 billion to contribute to construction of the nearly 2,000 mile, 18 to 30-foot-high barrier between the U.S. and Mexico.
“This is not a joke, this is not a scam, this is the REAL DEAL!” a post on the group’s Facebook page reads.

I can't imagine that anyone gave serious credence to Trump's claims he would build
an entire wall right across the border.

It was never going to happen, people must have realised that.

Hispanic is an ethnicity that would incorporate most Mexicans and other South Americans who do not have pure Native Indian blood.
