In Norway we have a Lutheran majority church, that has recently been separated from the state. And that is a good thing. The state has, especially under socialist governments, undermined the church by appointing liberal bishops, many female. So, the church is now trying to keep their membership numbers up, and try to reach out to the modern Norwegian. Making a gender neutral wedding liturgy is a part of that. (shaking my head in disbelief... I do a lot of headshaking..)
Now, in the time of Lent, the church tries to reach out to the younger generations. Making a mass based on HARRY POTTER! The biblical saying potter's hands is bewitched and blasphemed in this silly, desperate attempt of being a cool church. I am happy I am no longer a part of the church, but this is so devilish I can hardly believe it.

This is a link to the official page of an Oslo parish, announcing a Potter Easter!

I have never read a Harry Potter book, so I'm not sure what they contain, but generally, many churches are trying to be up to date by pulling stunts where unbiblical happenings are taking place. Maybe they don't believe in the word of God?

Hmm, I thought Pottermania was pretty well over. It's been quite a few years since the books and movies concluded. So I would think it be a little too late to capitalize on that fad. Then again maybe I am just getting old.

This just shows what happens when people are not Bible believing Christiasn but are harlots to the powers that be in this world.. They will compromise themselves out of existence..

People who will stand up for nothing end up having nothing to stand upon..

On that church website, the closest they got to mentioning the word "God" was saying this Potter theme "could" be used to discuss,
"existential questions about how we relate to a transcendent reality."

That was the closest they got to mentioning God.
They didn't even hint at mentioning Jesus.

Toinena,
Don't feel bad, we have many churches in America that are just as liberal, and utterly useless, as this.
In fact, we have some members on this forum that are so heterodox, and so unbiblical, they will probably think having an Easter Celebration with no Jesus, and no God, is probably a great idea.

I suppose if you're having a philosophical lecture, and you want to bring in unbelievers to then do apologetics... this approach is fine.
But it's a long way from an Easter celebration, for believers, at a church.

I am sad. I came to faith in the Church of Norway
I felt at home. Now I feel homeless.... So I am upset. I attend another church, and it is great. Still it saddens me. I have friends that still belong to the church, even a vicar that is very dear to me.

This year is the two hundredth anniversary of the death of Jane Austen. Long live Jane Austen! :D

Not sure Harry Potter is the best example, but it is also just as silly to think that the "Holy" 1800's churches we fight so hard to emulate are anything close to the worship people in Jesus' time knew.

I'm head over heels for Lizzy!
I just watched the four part mini series called "Lost in Austen." And earlier this week, "Becoming Jane" as well as "Mansfield Park" :D It does all make me want to watch P&P again :)

Nope. Matter of fact the next movie is just released to stream at home. (I love Harry Potter's world. And, yes, of course I know it's fiction. I also love Hundred Acre's Woods.)

As for the Norwegian church? This is why denominations keep splitting. It is the nature of people to want to stay away from God and God's supernature to have himself a people who will follow. One side goes for human nature, the other insists on God.

Why doesn't Norway start a new division and have a denomination that is God centered, instead of fiction-centered? You're free from state-rule now.

Here's the only potter I know about :D

"The word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying:
“Arise and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause you to hear My words.” Then I went down to the potter’s house, and there he was, making something at the wheel. And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter; so he made it again into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to make.
Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying:“O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter?” says the Lord. “Look, as the clay is
in the potter’s hand, so you in My hand, O house of Israel! The instant I speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, to pull down, and to destroy it if that nation against whom I have spoken turns from its evil, I will relent of the disaster that I thought to bring upon it. And the instant I speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to build and to it, it does evil in My sight so that it does not obey My voice, then I will relent concerning the good with which I said I would benefit it." Jeremiah 18:1-10 And Romans 9:19-21

"You will say to me then, “Why does He still find fault? For who has resisted His will?”But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? Will the thing formed say to him who formed, “Why have you made me like this?”Does not the potter have power over the clay, from the same lump to make one vessel for honor and another for dishonor?"

"They will "COMPROMISE" themselves OUT of existence..."

This seems PRECISELY what the United States government is doing TO America! Do not feel too bad Norway, the "states" are in the same ditch as "pottermania"!
