donkey poop.

a bit of donkey excrement dating to the 10th century BC, contrary to expectation, provides evidence along with other circumstantial data that a large mining site being excavated in Israel was part of Solomon's empire.

a large contingent in the archaeological community has long held that David and Solomon were only minor chieftans, and not in control of the territory and power that is described in the Biblical record, but recent finds in Jerusalem and now at this mining site are justifying the Biblical record and the people who have believed it.

Wouldn't donkey poop have degraded and become donkey fertiliser by now. :p

I may sound thick but how can a bit of Donkey Poo prove anything other than an ancient Donkey once pooped in the area.
Its not as if Solomons name was inscribed on it

of course you are right, and nothing has been found directly linking it to Israel's king.

the significance is that it was thought this site dated several hundred years after Solomon, but the poop itself being dated to Solomon's time ((along with some other evidences)) indicates that it was active during his reign. archaeology is full of very small bits of data from which bigger things are extrapolated

I have another theory lol.

What if someone just trod in it and it got transferred to its present location
on the bottom if someone's ancient sandal. :D

I wonder if that was as annoying then, as it is now.

Well that's a bit of an assumption.

When I first saw this I thought, 'Allan Quatermain!'

I always love when news like this appears! It's funny how so many people seem shocked that there might actually have been a King Solomon who was as rich as the Bible says he was, when they've had the information for centuries! They just dismissed it because it was in the Bible.
