I think it was a he,but you're still right.
Call me crazy, but the arguments supporting the Holocaust would have been interesting to hear. Don't get me wrong that should not have happened, but the way the human mind works would have been quite interesting to listen to

Not to be nasty, but we know how the human mind worked. Hitler and his minions were pretty revealing as to their thoughts so we know what the human mind is capable of,what evil. Had this been college it might have been different. Not high school. JMO

Oh believe me I know, but I always wanted to know what Hitler was thinking and how his mind worked. I have always had an interest in psychology because the past serial killers like Ted Bundy, BTK, and several others has always interested me because they were not normal and I find what scientists and psychologists say about the way they processed information and what made them tick

I would be interested in learning the views of those who were in favor of it. I am curious of what they believe. I am also curious about how they teach about it Germany. To learn how different people see important world events.

I wont make a comment about learning views of people in favor of it. To me it was horrible, evil and beyond tragic and those who committed it were evil reprobates. But the point is this was an assignment for high school kids. Its wrong, morally wrong I think.

I don't mean this whatsoever, but being Utah, I'd say the following just to anger the teacher:

Most Jews vote for liberals therefore I approve of the Holocaust. In fact, more should have died because today we see the continued damaging results of too many Jews voting for liberals.

Im pretty sure that would set his hair on fire...

Wouldn't be surprised if there were some muslim students in the classroom and the teacher is causing strife by appeasing them. Its one of the things liberals do best.

Yes it was evil. Believe me, it was a horrible thing that mankind could have possibly committed an act as sinister and evil as the holocoust. But is it a sin to simply try to understand them? I am a curious person. I love to hear other peoples opinions on a subject, even as somthing as delicate as the holocoust.

For the same reasons, I do reaserch on how they teach it in schools in Germany. To hear their side of the war. How it was for them

Here's an excerpt from an article about this:

The assignment itself notes that the point is "not for you to be sympathetic to the Nazi point of view."

"Ultimately, this is an exercise on expanding your point of view by going outside your comfort zone and training your brain to logistically find the evidence necessary to prove a point, even if it is existentially and philosophically against what you believe," the assignment says. LINK
It was foolhardy for the teacher to give this assignment. Not because he did anything technically wrong. But because it should have been easy for him to predict that the assignment would be taken out of context and turned into a great big controversy--which is exactly what happened. It wouldn't surprise me if the teacher gets fired over this. Oh well, at least it will be a learning experience for the teacher.

edit: I'd guess that the teacher isn't too bright to begin with based on his use of the word "logistically" in the quote above. :)

One day in high school I wore an a,b,c,d,e, F Iran button in protest of our citizens being held hostage over there. I was reprimanded and had to remove the button. Boo!

The teacher's a punk. If he had his students argue that Black Lives Actually Don't Matter then I'd be impressed. Liberals are pandering little cowards, pure and simple.

When my wife lived and taught in Germany, it was almost impossible to get any of the citizens to even talk about it.

While I think this is too advanced for a high school, the teacher's premise is sound.... and has actually been practiced for years.

When I was in DeMolay, we often were required to debate and argue from just the opposite POV that we held. The point was that unless you can actually understand at least SOMETHING of what the other guy espouses, then how in the world can you say he is wrong?..... since you don't know anything about his thoughts. You end up doing what we so often do right here... "Since I know I am right, you have to be wrong, and that settles it!"

There's no justification for the murder of six million people.

When I first read this, my initial thoughts were of how awful an assignment this was, leading young people to put themselves in the mindset of incredibly evil people and working to justify genocide. But after thinking about it for a while, I actually think this is a good exercise. It could be a good way to get people to really think about the extreme hatred and anger a person let themselves be consumed by, and how people in desperate times were easily lead by him to turn against an entire group of people. It could help others be on guard for this very thing in their own lives.

It might be a bit too advanced for high schoolers, as others have said. But it could be a really good lesson, to get into the minds of such a murderous group of people who took advantage of a nation in distress, and see how all of this could have happened.

And yet, we will sit and read of the same sorts of things happening all through the Bible (and very often NOT by God's hand) and not bat an eye about the justification of it.
