Bernie Sanders, in his grilling of Russell Vought, President Donald Trump’s pick for deputy director of the Office of Management and Budget, seemed to want to apply a religious test for government office candidates - which is precluded by the Constitution. He also missed the obvious point, as did Vought (I think), that Islam professes a single way to "salvation" (paradise?) via Mohammed and the Koran - to the point of killing the infidels according to some radicals. It seems as though Christians are the only ones capable of bigotry but, given our fallen nature, all humans are capable of bigotry. I certainly would not rely on Sanders for theological explanations pertaining to Christianity or Islam. Search: Bernie Sanders religious test for articles from Christianity Today and The Atlantic.

I saw a partial video where he was trying to trap the man into being an "Islamaphobe" by quoting him where he said Muslims are condemned already. Youd think Bernie Sanders would be a smart enough man to know that Islam says the exact same thing about Christians, that we are guilty of shirk, the unforgivable sin of Islam, and that those who are guilty of it should expect a "painful torment".

I wonder if hed hold Muslims to the same expectations for the sake of Christians? Of course we know he wouldnt, it had nothing to do with Christianity or Islam, he was just trying to use the mans faith against him : p

[h=1]Bernie Sanders Proposes Bill Forcing Christians Holding Public Office To Wear Scarlet Cross[/h]
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Bernie Sanders is doubling down on his condemnation of Christians holding public office as “hateful.” According to reports from within the U.S. Senate, the Senator from Vermont proposed a bill Friday that would force Christians holding any kind of public office to wear a visible scarlet cross on their clothing at all times, in order to clearly identify themselves as hateful bigots.

Dubbed the Hateful Bigot Identification Act, the bill would require anyone believing in salvation through Christ alone to wear the cross, in order that co-workers and citizens could immediately identify and disregard the opinions of the disgusting, backwards, religious public servants.
“We have to know who to take seriously, and who’s a dangerous threat to our society,” Sanders said as he introduced the bill on the Senate floor. “By separating Christians from the rest of us, we’ll have finally achieved the religious liberty and tolerance the founding fathers dreamed of.”
Sanders also stated that other religious people, such as Muslims, would be excluded from the act. “We’re only worried about the Christian bigots here,” he said.
The Senate is projected to vote on the bill next week.

Earlier today, I was toying with ideas to reduce the welfare rolls. One thing that crossed my mind was if you receive welfare benefits from the government, you must give up your right to vote. What do you think?

Not really a good idea. There are actually people who do use it for it's intended purpose and to do this would take their situation and make it worse. it would take away their voice and their ability to better their lives.

The founding fathers limited voting to property owners. I think it would be interesting if only those who pay taxes were able to vote. Certainly would reshape the political landscape.

sounds like a plot to keep the poor from voting, thus keeping the wealthy in power

Guards against those who will not work from robbing the treasury of the diligent.

The founding fathers warned against this very thing. Redistribution of wealth is not a Godly principal.

Uhhhh Im pretty poor and I pay taxes.
Me too and I vote also. I wanted to vote for Trump but my wife said that if I did that I would be sleeping on the couch. Hillary wasn't a viable option so I did a write-in for Bernie. I know that he's a Communist but he's an amusing guy. He's also a political whack job. I guess that the Donald is also but he did get elected president. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing but he is an interesting man.

If we base voting on paying taxes, my 18 month old great-granddaughter pays hers every time we go into the store. She should be able to vote.

Of course, her taxes are paid on other peoples money. Sound's like she's going to be a good democrat. Maybe I need to work on that.
