Okay so you go to a country that is famous for human rights atrocities and do something stupid.
Even a toddler is smart enough not to touch a hot stove

In this particular case, Dude, I find myself agreeing with you again. The Jackass shouldn't have even been in that country.

Is this about that American who took a sign in N. Korea years ago? I heard he was killed or something? Can someone explain the story to me?

He got real sick in Korean prison. Trump got him sent home. He died shortly after he got here.

There's a lot of countries worldwide people should avoid, and North Korea is #1 on that list. Regimes like that must always be suspected to take advantage of foreigners for their own purposes.

The general advice is not to visit countries like that. It's for a reason some countries are referred to as pirate states, because they will often make up some bogus reason for keeping you in one of their detention centers to show the world how powerful and fearless they are.

C'mon people. He made a series of dumb mistakes. But this is an incredibly sad story. These people lost their son who was likely tortured.
Everyone knows it's pretty dumb to go to N.Korea, much less take a poster, but I couldn't even begin to tell you the incredibly stupid things I did, especially as a young man.But by God's grace I'm alive.
Let's have some compassion for this family.

The difference is you're in a country where you know you'll be treated fairly. In America you're not going to get 15 years in prison for stealing a Snickers from the grocery store

Of all the countries in the world to choose from why would anyone in their right mind pick North Korea?

Also news of Mr Trump and his famed threat of action against North Korea seems to have fizzled out recently

There are many places in this world that I would avoid like the plague. In fact there are a few here in the US, that I wouldn't go near. That said, there is absolutely no excuse for the people of these areas to take the life of another person for being at the wrong place at the wrong time. There is definitely no excuse for the people of the no go areas to beat anyone to death for stealing a souvenir of his visit.

To be honest about this whole incident. I believe that the tour company failed completely when they failed to forewarn the tourists of the severity of the treatment of any foreigner who even remotely breaks NK laws, and just how easy it is to break one of their laws.

I pray that God will comfort this family in the days ahead, and pray that God will move in little fat boy's life in such a manner that he can't sleep until he turns to God.

This^ I had the same thought. There should really be a push to warn the people going to this country that they need to be extra careful to follow their rules, that the country is not a safe place to be. I know its "not advised", but anyone going there should have to take some kind of small class where they can be warned of the dangers of breaking any rule as a foreigner in this country.

The guy was 19 or 20 when he went. At that age its very easy to be brave without thinking... The only real wrongdoing here is what was done to him by the NK regime.

That's a good idea. Also, like during the Soviet Union era, there was a lot of secret laws people could easily violate, and this is the case in North Korea as well.

Now, this legislation is established to initiate legal processes against political opponents, but, most foreigners visiting North Korea will be labeled political opponent or worse, the minute they set foot on North Korean soil. People should be aware of this, so taking classes, unfortunately, sounds like a good idea.

I read somewhere that he's suffering from some illness, and the times I saw him on the news he didn't look well either. While it seems like evil men are getting away with these atrocities, they're not invincible as we know. And I'm not sure that Kim has anyone to be successor when he passes away... so is it possible someone might overthrow his communist regime at some point?

When I heard that he wiped out someone's entire family tree (including children and babies) because he suspected that one person was against communism, I couldn't help but be reminded of King Herod who killed all those babies because he didn't want someone stealing his throne. He didn't fear God.

We can but hope he will turn to God. Can you imagine if he got saved and what a testimony that would be to the entire world, once he completely changed! That would be amazing. And the world would be stunned!!

Well many will want to question the wisdom of traveling to NK. It has a certain allure because of the danger. Why is it that Dennis Rodman can go there and not get tossed into prison?

In any case I cannot blame the victim for being stupid. Who here has not done something stupid? Let him throw the first stone.

For the cause of Christ

Probably because Dennis Robin was smart enough to know that when you visit another country you need to be on your best behavior. In 2017 I believe it should be common knowledge by now that when you go to jail in another country you are in some deep doo-doo

I feel so sorry and sad to hear this sorrowful story since I've heard the news ,and pray for his family. Now I want to know if this American college student was saved by God, but only God knows. It seems that he is a Jew(the internet told)
This news touched my heart to pray for those people around the world who have not been saved by God. Pray for their souls.

No. You are not in a country where you are guaranteed to be treated fairly. Liberty and justice for all is a lie in America from the very beginning when slavery was still in practice.

Even Wal-Mart with their "respect for the individual" and their "Open Door Policy". It only works if good people are upholding it properly, but when it comes to the love of money, an unjust scale is an abomination to the Lord, but not to Wal-Mart. They protest way too much about wishing to prevent high turnovers when they are the cause of it. I could go on.

So no. Living in America does not guarantee any one will be treated fairly, even by their own set rules, but it sure beats living in a communist country or an Islamic one which is a theocratic one; not really a democracy.

Umm... ever take a look at what they're teaching in collage today? I mean,if you listen to some liberal profs they say if we just gave ISIS a collective hug and a big smooch they'd lay down their weapons and we'd all have a love in. Its like the world is full of cotton candy and fairy dust and we just need to love everyone and it's all good. Not surprised at all that the young man was so naive.
