As negotiations begin for our exit from the EU (Brexit) it is clear to me that the EU are not prepared to give an inch. I thought Theresa May had made a good start in stating that EU citizens currently residing in the UK were going to be allowed to stay with access to full UK rights - the latter after 5 years if they would guarantee the same rights for Brits currently residing in other EU countries. Were these proposals met with a smile? Were they welcomed? Not on your life! They were met with stony faces and a few damning remarks by Merkel and Junker. It is clear to me that they want only one thing in return for a free trade deal - which by the way is equally in their interests...they want free movement of people to and from the UK. This is totally unacceptable and has brought terrorists from further afield - in the main by Merkel herself. No this is not what we voted for! We voted for a clean break, we voted for control of our own borders and I think we need to walk away from anything less. The problem is the government is trying to appease the city and the money big-wigs but the people have spoken, it is time to break free.

Is it OK for a Christian to be angry? I am angry!! Britain has so much to offer the EU, we buy a huge %age of their cars, we have the best armed forces in Europe and we have the 5th largest economy in the world. Our intelligence service is one of - if not the best in the world and they in their arrogance want to take £billions from us to enable us to leave. We do not need to pay them ANYTHING, we simply need to walk away and do business with the rest of the world. Yes initially it will be tough until trading deals are established but it will be so worth it.

I'm sorry, this is not politically correct but Angela Merkel reminds me of a female Hitler and we all know what we had to do with him, ultimately we had to stand up to him! ‘This is NOT a breakthrough’ Angela Merkel slams May and demands free movement or NOTHING | This Is England

Sorry, I had to vent, rant over!

To be blunt: I don't see why man Brits want EU rights/ assets but not to be in the EU.

is it OK for a Christian to be angry? Yes: "Be angry but sin not".
Besides, I doubt God expected his creations to always agree on everything, he must have known before starting we'd keep getting ourselves into arguments and troubles :p

Pssst, speaking from a country that has to work out trade deals all the time, y'all really don't have to be in the EU to get them.

I honestly thought Brexit was Britain's divorce papers served to the EU. It's a done deal. Why aren't y'all just walking away?

I see the EU's problem with the UK walking. You are the rich side of the marriage, and no one wants to part with your money. Too late. The divorce papers were delivered. No one but you, can stop the divorce. But why would you, now that you see you were only married for your money?

In America, we made the mistake of deciding some businesses were too big to fail. We were wrong. I hope we learned from that mistake and have moved on. In like kind, the EU sounded like a good deal at the time, but now you figured out why it's wrong. May you learn from that mistake and simply walk.

You already served the papers. Walk. You are Britannica! You're a lot more important to the world than you think you are. Walk, and suddenly the pouters will remember that and come back with the trade agreements they need more than you do.

What Trump said was tacky, however, he isn't wrong. Let loose the refugees too. Y'all were ramrodded for all those refugees too. The EU's problem with you being forced into the solution. There's a good reason for vetting immigrants. The EU would rather forget that, particularly if they can hand the problem over to someone else. Y'all were the someone else. Take it as an added bonus to your divorce papers.

You're free! You're free again! Don't let the gold-digging ex tie you up indefinitely.

And then, once the divorce is over, don't be surprised to discover you didn't marry the entire continent. You married it one country after another. Some brought something to the union, and others didn't. After the divorce dies down, you can figure out which countries you want a partnership, instead of marrying the entire continent. AND, they'll be fine with that. (Including Merkel.) Don't confuse bluster with reality.

I agree with wwjd_kilden.

If you want free market with Europe, you must be willing to accept people of Europe in your country.

I have no idea why the EU should be "smiling" at you and making you "good deals" or even better than Norway or Switzerland have.

EU has much more stronger position in any deal so it is not suprising it wants to have advantages.

The EU is scared the UK will make a success of it. If so, other countries
will leave the EU.

So they are trying to make it as hard as possible.
We aren't out of the EU yet, the Brexit has just been triggered.

60% of UK legislation is EU legislation, so we have to untangle ourselves bit
by bit. There is also the matter of the "divorce bill" though I don't
understand that at all as the UK is one of the larger payers of EU finances.
If anything the EU should be paying us!

We do accept people from all other the world, providing they have the correct passport,
visa etc. However in the EU it's different as any EU citizen just flashes their EU card and
can automatically travel and work in any EU country of choice. Thats what Brexit wants
to stop, the UK wants to take back control of its own borders rather than the EU dictating
who we must accept.

We cant even deport EU criminals thanks to the so called human rights Act.

EU rules stopped Britain deporting murderers, rapists and violent criminals

What the heck does "accepting people from Europe" many of whom are muslim refugees who do not want to assimilate into the culture, have to do with fair trade agreements!

Its actually interesting that you cant deport criminals... If I recall properly, France deported many roma people back to Romania and Bulgaria and criminals are deported back to their countries on daily basis. We for example are returning many people to Germany when they cross borders.

Its only harder, because you must catch them in your country, not already on borders.

To be fair I think refugees are different from immigrants.

Imigrants go to another country by choice looking to (in our case) avail themselves
of the free NHS and benefits in some cases. There has been loads and loads of stories of how
pregnant women come to the UK from the EU, have babies free then go home. This was a
particular issue with Romanians doing this.

Also loads of stories of how people come claim benefits get a minimal job to claim
child benefit, send a bit home each week to their home country (where a few pounds
will buy groceries for a week) and pretty much use benefits in the UK to
give their families a good standard of living in other EU countries.

Whereas as refugees are people driven from their country by war, persecution etc.
Many end up deeply tramautised, injured etc.

Muslim refugees are not Europeans.

Britain, because of its former colonies, has much more non-european immigrants than the most of EU countries will ever have. Its really their inner historical problem, not the EU problem.

Their history is coming back to them.

The same with France or Spain.

I have no idea how restricting people from Poland, Latvia or Austria to enter on a civic card only instead of passport will change this.

Nonsense, Germany opened up their borders and beckoned in the refugees unchecked allowing all and sundry in, once in Germany they were in effect into Europe - terrorists and all. There is no question that since this was allowed to happen Germany, France and Britain have had more terrorism - some of it home grown yes but they were free to return from terrorist camps outside of Europe. It's simple WE HAVE HAD ENOUGH and much of it is down to Angela Merkel who in effect is running the show!

Agreed. We have the very same problem with Mexicans coming to America just to give birth and receive benefits. But in BOTH cases why can't the home country determine who is and who is not allowed into their country?

Nonsense.

Refugees in Germany have no right to move freely in the EU so this is no argument for Brexit nor for restricting native EU citizens to enter UK on a civic identification card.

You still do not get it.

UK vs other EU countries is not like the USA vs Mexico. Its like New York not wanting people from Texas move freely there and wanting to leave the USA because of it.

Its an internal affair.

Whether this is true or not we do not want the EU telling us how many "refugees" we have to squeeze onto our own small island! The sooner we get the Hell out the better!

Have you ever noticed that from 200 thousand of quota refugees only about 6 000 was relocated? Most of them to Sweden.

Quotas do not work.

Nothing is as hot as it seems.

Stupid Germany is only one country of 28. It cannot do whatever they want. You are scared and run away instead of fight.

It's simple we need to control our own borders, the EU do not give a damn how crowded we are whilst France are able to keep their wide open spaces - same population massive country, it's not right!
