I'm a landlord, and when the rents due, the rent is due. Sounds like this 94 year old should be in an assisted living facility, not an independent living place. She may be a little stubborn or senile, but its still sad to see our elderly being treated so poorly. They should have just arranged to transport her somewhere else to live, cuffs and jail is absurd...Only in America

She would not go anywhere else. They should have gotten a church to pay her rent. She’s 93, leave her in peace. The poor old lady doesn’t even have teeth.

we have a very dear friend whose son has gotten himself into quite a predicament-
he moved into a place and really 'fixed it up' and has taken really good care of it,
but he has been 'broke for several months now,, because of business things going
wrong...

the crux is, even though he can't pay his 'rent', the renters feel that his keeping their place up,
and doing 'extra things', that for them, it is worth keeping him there, rent 'free'...
it's been several months to now, boy, does this get the imagination going???...

From the article.

"Ms Fitzgerald, who was interviewed in jail while dressed in an orange jumpsuit, tearfully refuted the claims. Asked about why she would not pay the rent, the woman, who was handcuffed and appeared to have bruises up her arms, said of a housing facility employee: “She wouldn't take it, that woman blamed me for the mould.”

She added: “I paid my September rent and when she decided she was going to put me out, she wouldn't accept any rent after that.”"

The facility calls themselves a "Christian Care Facility". I don't see Christ in their actions.

Whatever the ins and outs of the case, at that age people don’t just move on and
get organised. They don’t just adapt, they don’t cope with change well.
Change can be life threatening and terrifying to a person that old.

Its not a story about rent it’s a story about lack of compassion and lack of
basic human kindness.

Miri, is only '49' and understands these kind of things that come with aging! -

oh the many ways that we have been enticed to NOT think about how we are ALL
growing 'older', moment by moment, day by day....in the twinkling of an eye...

you really see the lies, when you retire; many can't take it...

Unfortunately I have several friends who are going through terrible things at the
moment.
Terminal overian cancer on palliative care
breast cancer,
massive stroke causing a husband and wife of 30 years to have to live seperately
since they married
rare cancer which has damaged nerve endings so unable to feel
my aunt in and out of hospital this year,
another elderly person on end of life care
another with breast cancer
young child born with defects
Another was in a terrible car crash now confined to a wheel chair and cannot talk due
to damaged speech centres of the brain (she can understand and write in 4 languages but
can’t speak only grunt,

Their ages range from 0 to 90.

Life is very fragile at any age, old age just makes it even more so.
None of us are guaranteed tomorrow yet we race through life without a second thought
about actions and consequences or where we will spend eternity.

Each day is a blessing and each blessing counts.
