"On April 20, 2018 the Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine Rostislav Pavlenko handed appeals of Ukrainian civil and ecclesiastical authorities to His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople. In these petitions President Poroshenko, Parliament and two out of three Ukrainian Orthodox Christian churches requested the bestowal of church independence (autocephaly) to the Orthodox Church in Ukraine.

(...)

There is also hype in Ukrainian social media over the suitcase that was placed at the Patriarch Bartholomew's feet during the Mr. Pavlenko's visit. In such a corrupt country as Ukraine, people understand what it means – this is a "fee" for the autocephaly, just as it was in the Middle Ages. The Ecumenical Patriarch is known for his commitment to highest democratic standards in administration, and it is disturbing that such allegations appear."

Saw a link on cnewa.org a couple of days before. Here is an original article:

What do you think?

Can anybody outside historically Orthodox countries really know what's going on? It's obvious the article is haphazardly translated and there are so many layers of custom and culture on top of it.

It does seem to bear a similarity to nobility-church interactions in medieval times.

Are you an Orthodox Christian? I was just curious, this denomination is a far distance from me as a Baptist.

I was born and raised a Catholic but no longer attend mass.
But do you still believe in the teachings of the Catholic Church such as Eucharist, Purgatory, use of images and icons on worship, intercession of saints, calling the priests father etc.

please reply.

Then you should join any Bible based groups in the US. but remember some of them and I believe most of them are really business that make merchandise out of members' contributions.

Please before fully deciding to disbelief on our Church's teachings, you must read the Catholic Apologetics.

this is where you will learn how our Church teachings are really based from the Bible.

being Catholic is better than joining most of the Bible based groups because you can attend mass even you don't give a penny. in most Bible based groups, pastors will frighten you of God's curses if you are not that generous in giving 10 percent.

I'm a traditional Catholic.
According to many here on CC, you are doomed to the fires of hell. Apparently there's a sign on heavens gate that says ... "No Catholics Allowed". Sorry to be the bearer of such terrible news :(

There's no sign yelling at Catholics on the front gates of heaven...

that's where they keep the sign for lawyers.

The sign for Catholics is much more discreet.

I was born and raised a catholic but i got out of that religion after i read the Bible..

As for the eastern Orthodox church it has had very little interaction with the western protestant churches so for the most part protestants know very little about it.. So not many will be able to offer anything concrete in the way of comments on this issue..

Because of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine i would think that the Patriarch of Constantinople would be under a lot of political pressure from both the Russian Orthodox and Ukrainian Orthodox over this issue..

Have you read any Catholic apologetic sites that teach Catholics how to prove a Catholic doctrine is in fact Biblical or Biblically approved?

You should have done it first before transferring to other religion.

Finally, a Catholic that admits it's a different religion than Christian.
I'd be cautious promoting Catholocism on this site. The sites official stance is 'Catholic is not Christian' and thus won't tolerate people actively promoting it.

I have a very limited knowledge of the Orthodox Church. Those in the UK cater for overseas nationals. There are very few services conducted in English.

I have read the Bible from cover to cover and have been lead by the Holy Spirit to get out of the evil harlot church of rome the RCC..

The apologetics of the catholic church is pathetic.. I have seen it all over the last 30 years.. I was in my early 20's when God freed me from that pit of evil and thanks be to God i will never go back. :D
