see it says its ILLEGAL in the article:

"The former Pennsylvania senator states that, "as a parent, I am concerned about the widespread distribution of illegal obscene pornography and its profound effects on our culture."

its politics. he wants stricter enforcement against porn which is already illegal and more censorship of the internet, which a totally different topic really.
Oh you see now.. I probably should have read the article instead of going by the headline.
But... how does one ban something that's already illegal??

This is just another one of those issues in which something ought to be regulated by a culture of shame, but isn't. Alas.

Chlamydia and Gonorrhea among performers is 10x greater than that of LA County 20-24 year olds.
The largest group viewing online pornography is ages 12 to 17.
More than 11 million teens regularly view porn online.
There are 4.2 million pornographic websites, 420 million pornographic web pages, and 68 million daily search engine requests.

I hate to see things get to this point, but I can't change what's been done.
With that said, I'm glad that people care to show these statistics so that believers and unbelievers alike can see that God says things for a reason, just like our parents say things for a reason.

Thank you.

You cant base the law on Biblical principals cause then you have a dictatorship. Next you're gonna have to outlaw drinking, cussing, lieing. gossiping, gluttony ect....

Slippery slope fallacy.

What those in government are called to do is pursue government with appreciation of the concept of mean (not to be confused with moderation). In other words, proceed with the tough task of establishing law on God's principles with the constant recognition that you yourself are not God or a god.

This is a fundamental problem of politicians of any ideological persuasion.

I think it's awesome.
I'm not voting for him however.
I just know it's proven that porn was a cultural study.. & IT'S PROVEN that it rewires your brain. I use to be a porn addict.. It tears families & lives apart..my life was torn apart because of it. Although, I am now set free from it:)

I seriously don't see how porn tears up people's homes/marriages.
Wow. Really?
So while a man is locked away in a room for hours neglecting his wife and children that has no negative effect?
Or when his wife wants to be intimate but he's already taken care of himself, that has no negative effect?
How about when he's constantly tired from being up all night because he's sneaking porn?
How should a woman feel when he'd rather look at picture and videos of strange women and strangers having sex than touch her?
Or he only wants to touch her after watching others? If he does that is he really being intimate and close with his wife or is he just getting off at that point?
How can a man be the spiritual head of the household, a good example to his children and a solid foundation for his wife if he's off in another room lusting after strangers?
What if he is looking at porn at work and loses his job?
Most women feel unattractive, unappreciated, unloved, devalued, not good enough and sometimes even used when their husbands look at porn.

Now, you tell me, what kind of effect would these things have on a persons marriage? Fact is the majority of men that look at porn end up addicted. Addiction ruins lives, no matter what kind of addiction it is. Drugs, alcohol, gambling, sex. When you are married everything you do has the ability to affect your spouse. The choices you make lead her or him to feel loved, close to you, appreciated, wanted, etc... or they can lead them to feel alone, distant, uncared for etc..

There are some forms of porn which are illegal. Such as underage porn, snuff porn, etc. If porn is illegal in and of itself then why are there adult video stores selling it? Or even some regular video stores with 'back room selections' of porn? Or the millions of web sites up, making billions each year with people using their credit cards to pay for access? Yet these stores are never shut down, owners never arrested, sites not shut down, their paying customers not arrested. Why? Its legal.
The government actually has laws in place over the porn industry on standards the performers have to go by. Such as regular testing for STDs. If porn was illegal why would the gov't require porn actors to be tested regularly to be in porn films?
I'm not sure of the full context of the one line out of an article you posted, but perhaps he is referencing the actual illegal sides of porn, most likely underage porn, since he's referring to his children.

read the article yourself.

it doesn't say much and does not say Santorum will make ALL porn illegal or that he objected to all porn, though that is the impression on is lead to believe. However, with politicians it is a good idea to read their original words. I'll do a little research and see if I can find his speech... anyone know the date and place he spoke on this issue?

ok I found this I think its from his official campaign...

America is suffering a pandemic of harm from pornography. A wealth of research is now available demonstrating that pornography causes profound brain changes in both children and adults, resulting in widespread negative consequences. Addiction to pornography is now common for adults and even for some children. The average age of first exposure to hard-core, Internet pornography is now 11. Pornography is toxic to marriages and relationships. It contributes to misogyny and violence against women. It is a contributing factor to prostitution and sex trafficking.

Every family must now be concerned about the harm from pornography. As a parent, I am concerned about the widespread distribution of illegal obscene pornography and its profound effects on our culture.

For many decades, the American public has actively petitioned the United States Congress for laws prohibiting distribution of hard-core adult pornography.

Congress has responded. Current federal “obscenity” laws prohibit distribution of hardcore (obscene) pornography on the Internet, on cable/satellite TV, on hotel/motel TV, in retail shops and through the mail or by common carrier. Rick Santorum believes that federal obscenity laws should be vigorously enforced. “If elected President, I will appoint an Attorney General who will do so.”

The Obama Administration has turned a blind eye to those who wish to preserve our culture from the scourge of pornography and has refused to enforce obscenity laws. While the Obama Department of Justice seems to favor pornographers over children and families, that will change under a Santorum Administration.

I proudly support the efforts of the War on Illegal Pornography Coalition that has tirelessly fought to get federal obscenity laws enforced. That coalition is composed of 120 national, state, and local groups, including Morality in Media, Family Research Council, Focus on the Family, American Family Association, Cornerstone Family Council of New Hampshire, Pennsylvania Family Institute, Concerned Women for America, The Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, and a host of other groups. Together we will prevail.
if you notice he only promises to ENFORCE the already existing laws NOT make new ones banning all porn. in politics it pays to pay close attention to his words.

notice the jab at Obama for not being as strict about ENFORCEMENT of those laws?

"The Obama Administration has turned a blind eye to those who wish to preserve our culture from the scourge of pornography and has refused to enforce obscenity laws."

that is a pretty strong statement, I would like to see proof of that slander that Obama promotes porn by turning a blind eye to it.

From this statement I do not read that" I will put the porn business out of business" but that he will be a better policemen enforcing the laws already in place.

Sorry but I support the first amendment on this one and porn is protected by it. If they ban porn it opens the door for further internet censorship by the government which I am 100% against.

While I personally would like to see a ban on porn of any type, I have to agree with Vickikate, it's a lot more complicated then just banning it. Here's the thing we have to deal with, everyone has different beliefs. And because we all have different beliefs, we all disagree on what should or should not happen.

"zero"-- First of all, get a serious animal picture, not one that implies we can manipulate animals.

Secondly, of COURSE we should ban that kind of pornography----and all other kinds!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't call yourself a Christian if you a) defend pornography or b) suggest that truth is up to a consensus.

We can debate all we want; our agreeing that something is right or wrong doesn't make it either. God's Word is absolute and never changes. We can become desensitized and change our beliefs, but again, our beliefs don't equate truth.
