This has to be the craziest news-story in the last few months.

It is so over-the-top, I actually laughed at this nut-job's insanity.

A controversial pastor's conference welcoming only "white Christians" is underway in Lamar County, Ala., upsetting residents of the nearby town of Winfield in the western part of the state.
Christian Identity Ministries is holding a three-day conference for so-called "white Christians" who contend they have been treated unfairly, the Rev. Mel Lewis told local TV station WSFA. Lewis, the organizer and keynote speaker, says they have the right, like any other Americans, to worship how they wish.
Ku Klux Klan flags and white supremacy slogans surround the conference, which will conclude with a cross being set on fire Friday night. Organizers say it's not a cross-burning, but rather sacred Christian cross lighting.

"No officer, this isn't a lynching, we're just demonstrating how to make boy scout knots on this guy here!"

This is nothing new really. Since its inception the Klan has always claimed to be a Christian based organization.

TBH, I'm surprised they are still around. I thought they would have morphed into another group by now with a much trendier name.

Laughed? Funny?

There's nothing funny about this. It's sad, disturbing, and downright disgusting. (If it's true, that is. It could easily be an onion article ... I don't want to sully my computer's cookies by following the link, but I really hope it's a hoax / urban legend.)

I would have hoped that by now such humans would have been fished out of the gene pool by now.

Funny thing, The KKK claimed to be Christian, but to get in you had to swear by the devil to be loyal. Not a Christian thing to do at all.

Unfortunatley Diva, I'm pretty sure they are being very serious about this. I know that somewhere in the late 90's there was a group somewhere in the North that claimed to be Christian and was very Racist. I would not be surprised if somehow this ends up being tied to them.

The KKK should not even be allowed to exist. The first amendment should not protect hate speech. Racial intimidation is unlawful and should not be tolerated.

Are you being sarcastic / facetious here?

Because I hope you realize that just saying "so-and-so should not exist" is in itself hate speech. Saying that intolerance should not be tolerated is rather contradictory. Who gets to decide what gets tolerated and what does not get tolerated?

Don't get me wrong: I hate the KKK at least as much as you do. I'm disgusted that they exist. But I'd much rather live in a country where they have the right to express their filth and bile -- as long as it does no harm to others.

See, if I lived in a country where the KKK are not allowed to express their vile beliefs, then what's to stop the powers of that same nation from deciding that maybe I shouldn't be allowed to express my beliefs, that some non-Christians find distasteful?

You want to have it so no one with an opinion contrary to yours is allowed to speak? The only way to ensure that is to say no one is allowed to speak. No opinions on anything are allowed.

That's not what I signed up for.

One more Church down and it's going to get worse...
It's not really a "church down." This is a Christian Identity church, which is a fancy way of saying the Neo-Nazi Christian Church. Im not exaggerating, this organization highly identifies Aryan Nations, an American Neo-Nazi organization. They were lost from the start.
