8,786,049: Yet Another Record for Americans Collecting Disability | CNSNews.com

In August 1967, 74,767,000 Americans were working (according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics) and 1,152,861 were taking federal disability insurance (according to the Social Security Administration). That means that at that time there were about 65 Americans working for each worker collecting disability.

In August 2012, 142,101,000 Americans were working and 8,767,941 were on disability--meaning there were only 16.2 people working for each person collecting disability

People on disability have paid into a fund and the amount they get is based upon how much they've paid into that fund. So some people hardly get anything from disability and others get a great deal more. It is not like welfare. As long as the government maintains the fund and gives out proportionately it should never be drained. There are criminal penalties for those who defraud the system and mainly it is people like Moment of faith who denigrate the people on disability just wait until you get injured and cant work then you'll change your mind fast.

My mother gets SSI(or whatever you call it), and without it she could not survive. She also works. I see nothing wrong with people being on disability if they need it.

My father recieved disability as well.

We are now having 10 ,000 people a day retire for the next 19 years .. What will that number be in just a few years. You're not looking at the right problem. We are going to be losing so many. How bad will it be in a few years?
