Obama thinks a child needs parental consent for a Facebook page, but not to have an abortion. I think we all see the glaring contradiction.

In an interview he was asked about his daughter having a Facebook page. He said...

I’d worry about Facebook right now, ” he said. “I know the folks at Facebook obviously they’ve revolutionized, you know, the social networks. But Malia, because she’s well known, I’m very keen on her protecting her privacy.”

“She can make her own decisions obviously later as she gets older, but right now, even just for security reasons, she doesn’t have a Facebook page. Dates, that’s fine, ’cause she’s got Secret Service protection,” he added with a smile. Obama said he hoped his girls would date “boys who respect them and value them and understand their worth.

But when answering a questionnaire about parental consent for abortion, he answered no.

Protecting his daughter from possible internet predators by not allowing a facebook page =/= parental consent on abortion issues.

The point isn't that the two are identical, rather the inconsistency of a supposed principle.

If they arent connected as i said then there is no inherent principle. Protecting someones kid from someone else is not the same as controlling what they do with their body.

Parental consent of abortion laws have led to girls making very dangerous decisions, getting unsafe non-medical abortions, or if the doctor actually contacts the parents, there are cases where the daughter will be disowned or beaten. Facebook is NOT the same thing as an abortion.

Thanks for bringing this topic up.
It shows the moral disconnect of
those that put political agendas over principles.

Bowing in Asian countries is like shaking hands in ours. Being culturally uninformed is not an excuse for being hateful to the leader of our country.

Yes, in those countries it is a show of respect. Please learn more and quit the ethnocentrism. I am trying to understand the other's views but it is hard when people use ad hominem arguments and when people who have different views than the others are ridiculed, mocked, and smacked down before they say anything. Take when ABC News, said that Answers in Genesis believed in a 6,000 year old Earth and did not say anything else about that ministry. They are focusing on that one thing and nothing else. That is why the media is at times very biased, and not in a good way. One can have a bias and be biased, but when one smacks down or belittles another person's view, that is down right overly biased. As for the No Parent Consent for Abortion and Pro Consent for Facebook Pages, I don't see the connection one has to do with the media and the other has to do with another person's body, they are different and distinct things. God bless.

your ignorance of courtesy in different cultures is appalling. Its a show of respect in asian nations. Lol

Ignorance per se is not nearly as dangerous as ignorance of ignorance.

 ROTFL

#1 I apoligze for derailing this thread. I will try to figure out how to remove my post that are not following along.

#2 In ref to this thread- Obama voted YES to have insurances cover abortions and voted NO to needing the parents consent for abortion to minors,

He is suggesting other minors do not need parental consent(protection) to have an abortion and on the other hand, he is saying his own daughter needs the same protection from facebook.(parental supervision)

What he has done is reserve his own rights of being a parent while voting against others parents to have same rights to protect their children.

I believe this is wrong, because a child can not make adult decisions. I hope since his own daughters are growing up now , he may reconsider his view points on adult consent to minors especially for abortions.

Children need their parents in their lives ...now more than ever. Especially in areas of abortion and birth control.

If a "child" makes the adult decision to have sex, I believe they are old enough to make the adult decision to keep or abort the baby. They didn't ask their parent to have sex, I'm assuming. The problem with comparing Facebook to an abortion is... If your child goes behind your back and has a Facebook, the worst that happens is they have a Facebook and you yell at them. The worst that happens with your daughter having an abortion is you (not YOU, but a fanatic) kills or attacks their daughter. Also, as a parent, you can forbid your child to do either. Obama can forbid his daughter to get an abortion and a Facebook. However, when it comes down to it, an abortion is a life-changing experience. Getting a Facebook is not.

The worst thing that can happen if my 11 year old daughter gets a Facebook page is not that she gets a Facebook page. That's like saying that the worst thing that can happen if she accepts candy from a stranger is that she gets candy.

I think abortion is wrong but its weird how some people on here think its worst than war, murder, divorce, and every other sin. Seems like some people are so focused on one thing but forget about everything else.

I think abortion is wrong and I disagree with a lot of obama's policies but you just sound rude and ethnocentric.
I apologize if I have offended you. Thank you for bringing that to my attention . :)
