‘Toaster Pastry Gun Freedom Act’ proposed in Maryland

A Maryland state senator has crafted a bill to curb the zeal of public school officials who are tempted to suspend students as young as kindergarten for having things — or talking about things, or eating things — that represent guns, but aren’t actually anything like real guns.

Sen. J. B. Jennings, a Republican who represents Baltimore Harford Counties, introduced “The Reasonable School Discipline Act of 2013″ on Thursday, reports The Star Democrat.

“We really need to re-evaluate how kids are punished,” Jennings told The Star Democrat. “These kids can’t comprehend what they are doing or the ramifications of their actions.”

“These suspensions are going on their permanent records and could have lasting effects on their educations,” he added.

Finally, someone with some common sense. I don't think we should be glorifying weapons and violence, but at the same time, we have to realize that not everything should be considered a threat. A child who is playing is just that, playing. They are not necessarily going to become the next unabomber.

The Unabomber became what he was because he had the freedom to do so. The Aurora and Newtown shooters entered into history as such because it would have been unconstitutional to prevent them from doing so.

This deity called Freedom gives life and takes it away without prejudice.

Theopane, when I mentioned the unabomber, I was meaning that not everyone who uses pretends to play with guns are going to go around and try to kill people.

I know, but I think the backlash against the US gun-culture is appropriate and badly needed.

So, it's appropriate for kids who stop someone with a gun, on a school bus, to be suspended because they were involved in a fight with a weapon? Or a child is suspended just because they accidentally created a supposed gun looking like thing (which it didn't even look like that,) instead of the mountain they were aiming for?

It's not a back lash at our gun culture. Even the NRA agrees we need some gun control. However, what most people in other countries seem to not realize is that we have a ton of laws that control guns, but very few people who enforces them on criminals. In fact, some of our current leaders have supposedly supplied many with weapons, including the current and possibly past presidential administrations. And the funny thing is, those same people who are demeaning those who carry guns are the very same people who flock in droves to movies that contain tons of violence.

James Holmes and Adam Lanza were not criminals until they went on their respective murder-sprees.

Kids can't have fun if they've been blown apart by high-velocity bullets.

This morning I had pancakes for breakfast. As they were round I felt completely safe....not a pastry product in site.

I also heard that Hitler was a pretty nice guy until he started putting people into ovens and gassing them.
