Is the mentioning of Christ enough to define a song as gospel even if its being sung by a secular artist?

I'm just confused as to what is accepted in the kingdom of God.
I understand that Lucifer (Satan) was the angel of music.I even understand that he usese music to draw peolpe to him.I've watched thousands and thousands of documentary's about the secular music world, yet still no firm answer

Can anyone please help and verify with scriptures as well

Thanks Chad

Hi there Chad,

If there are songs about for example, the fruits of the spirit ie. Love, patience, kindness, goodness; those words should be good enough to be used in a song for us as strong believers who already know that these words are associated with the Christ-like beatitudes. However, what about the people who are not strong believers? should they not know that God should be put into these songs. Therefore i think that it should not be overdone, but done in a way appropriate to the different levels of where people are at. Sometimes all i need in a song is the word 'truth' in a song to aid my growing faith in Christ. What I am not saying is that there is not a line in the that can be seen with relevance to this topic. do not get me wrong on that on fellow brother.

Kind regards
Edson:)

I listen to all kinds of music. I don't buy into the notion you are sinning by listening to music that doesn't specifically mention Jesus or God. I think some people go a bit overboard on this subject. Let your spirit guide you.

Here is my deal on music and if it's for christ. I do not believe god is limited to one kind of music, because everyone has a certain personality- a certain beat in their heart. some people rap about how awesome god is. some people are heavy metal christians, some are hip hop christians. But you can sometimes tell what is in the heart of one who sings, now KJ 103 used to be my favorite station and kind of music before i came to christ. Now basicly these artists sing of what is popular- sex, money, women, partying, lust and love not the kind of love we christians know. I noticed this even before i was a christian and eventually started disliking it. Do you know how many ppl sing about how awesome they are and brag about how much money they have in those kinds of songs? but that is what people like nowadays. Nickleback however i seem to believe they are chirstians even thouhg their songs don't exactly state it. but their lyrics and the way they sing is of godly attributes

THanks for the replies

Would you guys agree that the more time you listen to secular music the further you drift from God?

@ Ed son
Is the fruit of the spirit only received once saved?
Are we not born with the able to love and be passionate?

@ Blain
There was a big issue with gospel artists allowing secular artist to feature in there music(refer to keep them anon)
So in essence people feel that it's not only the lyrics but artist as well.

Secular music doesn't glorify our God. Gospel music does, or at least is of a style associated with the glorification of God.

@Chadster: Well I believe in the supernatrual power of the God we love, but too believe in the weaknessess of our humanity. Having said that, I know for a fact that loving God no matter what is always my choice at the end of the day. So to answer your questioon to me is no. The fruits of the spitit are free for all to look at and imulate. Christian or not. On ekey difference is why, and how we use their beauty. Not who. Be blessed my brother;)
