Man is not made to be persecuted, but to walk in liberty. To be born and grow up in a country based on this principle and see it gradually snatched away is comparable to the prospect of death shortly after birth.

What amazes me is that when things like this occur it comes off as some kind of surprise. If we were spending as much time in the word as we should...this is not a surprise. It's been written about long ago. I agree that we would like for these not to happen in our life time...just as those who have gone on before us. Maybe it sounds weird but these things should only serve to encourage. To me it serves to prove that God's word is correct. Cheer up....our redemption draweth nigh...

Certainly, I think they would be inclined to agree with me.
Luke 21
12 But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and into prisons, and you will be brought before kings and rulers for My name’s sake.
John 5
16 And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus and sought to slay Him, because He had done these things on the Sabbath day.
John 15
20 Remember the word that I said unto you: ‘The servant is not greater than his lord.’ If they have persecuted Me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept My saying, they will keep yours also.

it doesn't sound weird to me. all this persecution actually happening out in the open is, in a way, relieving. it confirms my belief that i'm on the right side.

If God did not remove those faithful who have gone on before us from trials why should we expect better. Jesus said that he would never leave or forsake us. I don't believe he said we would never face trials or tests or persecutions...At the moment we can not or should not consider these things as persecution. We tend to cry "freedom of speech!"...which is only right. But, can we consider this persecution? I just don't think so. Perhaps later that will come. If we freak out over this what will we do when real physical persecution comes about? Paul says in Romans 8:18 of real suffering, "For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us."

As you have already said... No servant is greater than his master.

Persecution of Christians has never ceased actually since Christ said that.

This is not a proposition I am trying to refute. Persecution is a reality for the Church. Always has been. Hence these verses.

Luke 21

When God let's the winds come we are not to question why, but take it as a test of faith and crucible of character. There is no perfection this side of eternity.

What I am saying is that Man was made to be in communion with God. To flourish. When a culture of Christians have had the unique historical opportunity to be without persecution for awhile, how can we not blame them for crying out when they are initially wrenched from that state?

Agreed. What I meant was world wide persecution as will be during the tribulation period.

well are you sure those who weren't persecuted historically are true Christians?
Jesus and Paul made it clear, Christians are not of this world, so the world will hate you. plain and simple.
even if you aren't (which might be a warning that you are conformed to the world), then the question would be do you care about those Christians who are persecuted?

Define persecution, please. We'll proceed from there.

Just like the Bible says what persecution is.
such as this second letter of apostle paul to timothy, in chapter 3.
12 Yea, and all who will live a godly life in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
