About 450,000 African slaves were brought to the U.S. directly or indirectly from a population of about 12 million Africans that almost all ended up in the Caribbean, Mexico, and South America. But what has been largely ignored by American historians and the public education system is that about 1 million Christian Europeans were enslaved by North Africans and transported to Africa. Their treatment mirrored that of Africans brought to the New World.

Several prominent historians have conducted extensive research recently on this largely ignored dimension of the Atlantic Slave Trade years.

Also, in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries more than 300,000 white Europeans were shipped to America as slaves. Urchins were swept up from London's streets to labor in the tobacco fields, where life expectancy was no more than two years. Brothels were raided to provide "breeders" for Virginia. Hopeful migrants were duped into signing as indentured servants, unaware they would become personal property who could be bought, sold, and even gambled away. Transported convicts were paraded for sale like livestock.

Interestingly, these white European slaves lived right with African slaves.

The modern "progressive" liberals removed a great deal of history out of the public education system because presenting the whole truth didn't indoctrinate children to accomplish their political ideological objectives. Sad but true. A skewed biased presentation is all kids get anymore in the public education system. Few educators really care about the truth. Few American adults care what really happened.

Yes the truth goes through a few filters before it reached us. Some of the truth eventually makes it to us through the efforts of others. Those people who get the truth to us are called "conspiracy theorists" now.

i suppose the idea being once it reaches us it has been delineated down to 'progressives' vs 'conservatives'; 'white' vs 'black'.

Thwere is only one politicial ideology that not only promotes white vs black but needs it to secure elections and power.....and its not conservatism.

Take anything the left is against and eliminate it...and they have no voter base.

Educate that said same base and they change.

Two major factors why we have the democratic party of today, the uninformed voter and election fraud.

Our great systems of further education, the colleges, seem to be today an indoctrination field for liberal ideology...probably because thats the only place an ''educated'' liberal feels comfortable.

Well yes but as zone is so fond of pointing out, neoconservatism is a political ideology with origins in the Marxist Trotskyite movement. The entire Democrat party and the majority neo-conservative bloc of the Republican party are manifestations of the left.

This wasn't always so. America rose to be the world's greatest superpower when Democrats were primarily classical liberals (not to be confused with modern liberalism or progressivism) and Republicans were primarily paleoconservative.

Today we see two bad parties in a two party system. That means no solution. So the rapid decline continues. It's like watching a computer thrash itself to crash. Thrashing occurs when a system increasingly spends more time processing page faults (e.g. negative behavior) than executing transactions (e.g. positive behavior). Eventually page faults come to consume all of the processing and no transactions are executed. Finally, the computer crashes.

Only this is a nation not a computer and the result will be that more than 300 million people eventually suffer... most of them terribly. Call me crazy and my friends, you haven't seen anything yet.

That would be a mistake. The scope includes much of Europe. From the Muslim conquests of southern Europe to North African and Barbary raiders moving up and down the coast of Europe from the Scandinavian countries all the way down to Italy.

Interesting piece, I was aware of indentured servitude, but not slavery among poor whites. Fascinating.

Can you guess what the definition of a person who acts unwisely, imprudently, and silly is raf? That's right. It's a fool. Cute hat by the way. Just kidding.

A wise person would not pose such a foolish question simply because the answer is already obvious to them. History offers a storehouse of information and data useful to understanding the causes which brought us to the present and how to plan a better future. When that history is deliberately corrupted or omitted, it's usefulness is handicapped.

This is clearly seen in America's failing public education system which has reached the point of obsolescence. Instead of filling American children with truth and knowledge while programming them with a curriculum designed for their economic success; American schools withhold a great deal of truth and knowledge from students and replaced academic staples with fluff social science classes designed to accomplish the political objectives of progressive liberalism leaving them handicapped in the real world and in life upon "graduation."

After an English law passed in 1659, minor children could be kidnapped by justices of the peace if they happened to be begging, or just seemed to be vagrant. These children were shipped to the plantations as servants without indentures (e.g. child slavery).

According to the author of “Without Indentures: Index to White Slave Children in Colonial Court Records (Maryland and Viginia),” the younger the child, the longer the sentence, and the county courts were the judges of their ages. The judges decided their age – and many of the kids were placed in servitude to the very judges who sentenced them.

The names of these kids, their assigned age, the owner, and the date they appeared in court are found in Richard Phillips brand new book, “Without Indentures: Index to White Slave Children in Colonial Court Records (Maryland and Virginia).”

The book also contains an index to ships and their captains that imported the children.
