President Obama Signs "Minimum Wage Hike" Executive Order - Live Feed | Zero Hedge

inShare1

By the power of his pen... President Obama gives minimum-wage-earning Federal employees (and physically and mentally handicapped workers) a 39% pay hike to $10.10 (and there's nothing you can do about it) to "benefit hundreds of thousands of people." We suspect that the president will remind us to the new "myRA" program and its benefits and how we should all tell our young friends to sign up for Obamacare too... and how this is paid for by the usual unicorn-tears-for-dollars swap...

He don need no stinkin congress....

Dog and pony show.
For fed employees and contractors only.
Because so many of them are working for minimum.

Big time smoke and mirrors. NO ONE working for the federal government either directly or contracted makes minimum wage.

The Davis Bacon Act (1931) mandates that ALL contractors and subcontractors on federally funded projects be paid "prevailing wage" for their occupation in their area. In reality most tradesmen actually make more than their normal wage on federal projects. Here in Colorado the lowest paid construction trade makes almost $14 per hour on federal projects.

...the nail....the straw? How much more can America take?

It will hurt small business more than can be foreseen. It will affect the poor, as usual, not the rich. Some will loose jobs...like everything, will have a ripple effect.

...but it will energize those duped, I mean those who vote for democrats and liberals who think they now prove they care by supporting liberal ideals....

that devastate the poor, cause poverty and promote societal destructors.

But hey, it makes ya feel good with no skin off your nose....right? You have someone to blame for your life problems, those evil rich white men. You can feel morally superior by supporting immoral ideals...????

I will say one thing for liberal agendists, they sure sell their product well.....or is it that sloth and immorality is an easier sell to fallen humanity?

Integrity is becoming a rare trait. Taken in trade for a wage inflated over skill level.

Bought and paid for.

This can be a good thing for most of the workers who need much more. Costco's CEO, in a move contrary to most merchants, states he would like to see the federal minimum wage increased to $10.10 an hour. That is even higher than the $9 an hour President Obama requested in his State of the Union address.

I don't know what to feel about this, since I'm not an economics expert, but Costco has a reputation of being a good company to work for. My sister in law works there. Their starting pay is 10.50$, and they give good benefits to their employees. I know that not every copany is the same, but I wonder why other companies don't follow their example. I would like to know if it would be really financially devastating for the company, or if they are just being cheap.

Plus, it's all paid for by government borrowing so even though the national deficit has dropped to where it was right before Obama took office, it's still ridiculously ENORMOUS and this will drive that up some more while costing a few jobs in the private sector.

You do understand that business are in business to make a profit? When you go to Costco and the 30 roll toilet paper you paid $18.28 for a week ago, and now you have to pay $23.50, so a teen shopping cart gatherer can make $10.00 an hour, maybe you'll get it.

Also, this hike the minimum wage talk makes it very difficult for my 17 year old son to get the ENTRY level jobs that use to be plentiful.

Americans have forgotten that your SUPPOSE to start out in low wage jobs to gain experience and hopefully character. THEN you move up through HARD work.

While I agree that most of these jobs are entry level, Costco's situation seems to be different. Costco has been paying 10.50$ long before anyone said anything about raising the minimum wage, so their prices (and quality) do not change because of this new law. And the CEO has actually endorsed raising minimum wage before. This is also the situation in Costco Mexico, where they have a reputation of being a good comany to work for. Not saying people shouldn't work hard to get better jobs, but there are companies who do pay more and are not affected by this.

Now we can see the axiom "sarcasm is the last defense of the witless" with the above post. Which is like most statements by leftists that are a mile wide and an inch thick, usually very sophomoric in wisdom.

So long as they don't unionize maybe they can still turn a profit...

Obama simultaneously raised the minimum wage and lowered the penalties of hiring illegal aliens by 40%. Good for him politically, bad for America's unemployed.
