Re: British gov hired propagandists to manipulate online polls, "deceive" the public

Simply because since WW2 Britain has been America's closest ally, plus cultural ties.

Lol funny article though, but not surprising. It has been known for a while many governments have a hand in manipulating polls. Lol I think we all know at this point in time 99% of polls are fake and meant to drive opinion rather than to reflect it. One of the oldest propaganda techniques in the book.

News media around the world manipulate "polls." Private citizens manipulate "polls" if they have enough money. Big business interests manipulate "polls."

Shoot, polls manipulate "polls."

Umm... yes but manipulating polls to get everyone behind WWIII or a new Cold War is self-destructive and unnecessary..

Re: British gov hired propagandists to manipulate online polls, "deceive" the public

I think most folks have known in the back of their minds that these things go on... but it's easy to dismiss because the media doesn't talk about it and because there's very little evidence.

I just expected more reaction in the west to a program that, in my mind, is blatantly antagonistic toward the principles of democracy, and completely criminal. I mean, this is solid evidence of a pretty earth-shattering conspiracy, in my mind.

manipulating online polls is nothing new...just look at how many online polls ron paul 'won' in the 2012 election before totally failing once real live people had to actually show up and vote only once...

also manipulating online polls is nothing illegal...maybe reserve your outrage for people silly enough to take online polls seriously in the first place...

Why would I get outraged at someone being silly? That sounds a bit... hateful.

Individuals manipulating polls is not surprising no; governments, which are supposed to be neutrally serving the interest and will of the public, doing so is wasteful at best. To accept this is to freely accept the regression of democracy back into oligarchy, not that it hadn't happened before this.

Though you are correct that propaganda is legal, I was under the impression that there was a law against it in the US but it was repealed in 2013. I was questioning the legitimacy of keeping friends internationally with countries that commit acts that are criminal in the US.
