At least 40 dead in Israeli attack on Gaza district

At least 40 Palestinians were killed on Sunday by Israeli shelling in a Gaza neighborhood, where bodies were strewn in the street and thousands fled toward a hospital packed with wounded, witnesses and health officials said.
The mass casualties in the Shejaia district in northeast Gaza were the heaviest since Israel launched its offensive on the Palestinian territory on July 8 after cross-border rocket strikes by militants intensified.
Anguished cries of "Did you see Ahmed?" "Did you see my wife?" echoed through the courtyard of Gaza's Shifa hospital, where panicked residents of Shejaia gathered in family groups, while inside bodies and wounded lay on blood-stained floors.
Video given to Reuters by a local showed at least a dozen mangled corpses, including three children, lying in the rubble-filled streets...

Unbridled aggression?

If the Belgians were lobbing rockets into the Netherlands, I doubt you'd expect your government to do nothing.
Hamas puts people near the weapons, so the people will get bombed by Israel.
Israel gives plenty of warning ahead of time, then Hamas turns their own people into human targets.

Israel is bridled enough on this one.

I'm far from an pro-Israel apologist. Israel seems in the right on this one.

Israel protects its citizens with rockets.

Hamas protects its missiles with people.

Israel's leader said that and it defines this conflict well.

Israel has two choices in this skirmish...fight or die.

By the way Hamas rockets are so poorly aimed many have fallen on palistinians as well.....just a fyi.

Sad but avoidable . Avoidable because the civilians were given the chance to evacuate after leaflet drops and broadcasts on radio and TV. HOwever Hamas forced them to stay so they could die and have thier corpses displayed to try and bring more hate on Israel.

you have to understand: governments like hamas do not care about the " common people" they could care less about loss of life. it is just anti- Israel fuel to them.

'The wronged party' is only a matter of perspective. The wronged party in my eyes is every civilian man, woman and child who now lays dead because of this boundless idiocy on all fronts.

As soon as the policy of trying to destroy Israel ends.

Here's the future of this conflict. Under political pressure from the western world, Israel will accept an UN monitored cease fire while Hamas rearms. In a year or two, Hamas will start lobbing rockets at Israel and things will repeat themselves. IMO, we can resolve this conflict by letting Israel clean house in Gaza and return it to the Palestinian people who truly want to live in peace with Israel.

It will end when some semblance of human compassion outweighs whatever human traits perpetuate this conflict. When men see the bodies of women and children and feel shame rather than tally points on the metaphorical wall; when leaders, rather than digesting statistics and pointing the fingers of blame, swallow pride and point out a thousand years of meaningless conflict; when communities of religious folk understand that sacrificing a selfish part of self leaves room for selflessness to grow, and when Israel vs Palestine becomes a secondary perspective to conflict vs peace.

Because at the end of war, the only reality that exists is conflict vs peace. It's hubris vs humility. Anger vs forgiveness. Hatred vs love.

And for all the endless debate, I would have thought somebody would recognize that.

Sadly, there is a large numbers of Palestinians who hate the Jews just as much Hamas. Does Yasser Arafat ring a bell?

The Arab nations could easily absorb the population of Gaza into their country. The Gaza strip is a politically motivated apparatus to become a thorn in the side of Israel. On the other hand the Palestinians can recognize Israel right to exist and repel those who are warmongers from other lands, and gather easily initiate a movement to establish its own state. It seems that the number one priority is to destroy Israel, and we know God will not allow it to happen.

Perhaps the Palestinians want to be legally recognized Palestinians, not Arabs. Still, wars happen all over, under different circumstances, technicalities, whatever. The commonality is that animosity perpetuates conflict.

Everybody who follows Middle East events knows that Hamas uses women and children as "human shields" for political purposes in their illegitimate terrorist war against the state of Israel.

In fact, the coastal enclave’s terrorist rulers are openly calling on local residents to do "their duty" and place themselves in the path of Israeli reprisals as the shoot missiles into Israel.

In an interview with Al-Aqsa TV on Tuesday, Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri was asked what he makes of local Gazans “reverting to the human shield method, which has proved effective” in past confrontations. Abu Zuhri replied: “This attests to the character of our noble, Jihad-fighting people… We in Hamas call upon our people to adopt this policy, in order to protect the Palestinian homes.”

There it is... they admit it publicly.

Hamas is designated as a terrorist organization by Israel and a number of Western and non-Western governments including the United States, Canada, the European Union, Jordan, Egypt, Japan, etc...

Hamas is a terrorist organization the entire world should be committed to reducing to cinders.

Esanta should sign up to be a human shield.

Yeah, and of course the Islamic nations could easily absorb the population of the USA and of the world (gulp!) They could also easily absorb a biscuit!

IMHO:

It is intolerable for any nation to tolerate a small pocket of attackers, a little piece of land from which rockets are fired & tunnels built for infiltration (well -- I should say on this last one, intolerable except for the insane who run the USA!)

I see no way for Israel to be free of this persecution except for the removal of the present population from the Gaza strip, & their replacement by Israelis.

That is not true, but I will never support a group that uses civilians to shield their weapons.

Instead of getting on us for supporting Israel, maybe you should vent that anger towards the ones who are truly doing the evil by using civilians as shields instead of warning them to flee.

Israel took, and is taking every precaution to limit the civilian casualties. But Hamas is doing the opposite by putting people in harms way.

If China was facing Japan, and Japan used civilians as human shields instead of evacuating them and keeping them in harms way then I would be just as against Japan as I am Hamas. And I am by no means in favor of China, who themselves have been known for persecuting Christians.

This dose seem to be the theme through this thread, "Pray for the peace of Jerusalem" not only means Israel but the whole region. Please be in mind that Jesus will return to Jerusalem one day and when He dose the bloodbath that will follow will never have been seen since the flood. Firstly take a while to study the prophesies that surround Israel and Jerusalem in the last days. We are living in the last days and Jesus said not to worry. Yes it is bad to see people suffer and die. The news is full of it all the time, all we can do is pray for Jesus to come back and take control.

actually you are describing the -past- of this conflict...this is like the third time we have seen the same thing happen...

although this time it seems like public opinion in israel is overwhelmingly in favor of ending this cycle instead of just letting it go into its next iteration...and whether or not netanyahu actually realizes it...it seems that his continuation as prime minister may depend on whether or not he listens...
