Walmart once again is showing their social moral concern, as they display their love of children, community, teachers, and education. They're offering teachers a deep 10% discount on supplies.
Walmart offers teacher a 10-percent discount on school supplies | WTVR.com

Now those teachers are getting a bit of a break. Retail giant Walmart announced it would offer teachers across the country a 10-percent discount on classroom supplies during Teacher Appreciation Week July 25 to 31.
Walmart continues to show their exemplary community values through providing jobs, affordable prices for middle class families, and now discounts that benefit our children and teachers.

Walmart deserves another thumbs up.

10% barely covers the sales tax.

I really have no idea why Walmart is doing this...I mean, the only reason I can think is politics. Trying to get good publicity. Or they're mad that Hobby Lobby got attention and they didn't.

It could be because they have a strong moral center, and social conscience. Many of these businesses are community minded, putting people above profits.

I bought all of my students pencil boxes and folders yesterday at Walmart. I wish I had known about this discount!

Of course.
Families benefit from low prices.
They provide a very important and beyond value economic worth to hard working families, citizens, and even non-citizens. Less money spent on groceries, means more money for little Johnny, Suzie and even Fido.

Walmart's actions are noble but it points to a problem that should not be a problem. Why do we need to buy school supplies when we pay billions in taxes to fund the schools? We fund computer labs and cannot afford pencils and paper? Give me a break. Somebody is getting one over on us.

Teachers must go back to teaching the basic skills of reading, writing and math.

Rant mode off.

Indeed this is a valuable point. Which highlights Walmart's noble corporate character even more. Even though our government is filled with vile corruption, Walmart stands like a city on a hill offering teachers and children these economic benefits.

That money isn't going to individual classrooms. As a teacher I buy a big chunk of the supplies that I need for my classroom.

I shop at Wal-Mart, but check the prices, a lot of times Wegman's Groceries are lower cost, even by a few cents. I gave up buying groceries at Wal-Mart because Wegman's always had a better deal, well expect for Popcorn, I can find cheaper popcorn at Wal-Mart.

That's the problem. The money is being diverted away from the students and their needs into less legitimate areas.

Politicians cannot define education. What they call education is not what the general population calls education. Education has been made a profession when it needs to be a vocation. It's not the fault of the teachers or at least not most of the teachers but the fault of the parents. Education of one's children is not the responsibility of the state but the parent.

In general we spend too much money for too little return. We need to stop building great facilities at the expense of producing a well educated student. We spend millions of dollars for a sports arena while the students lack paper in the classroom. Build multimillion dollar libraries when the students cannot read above the third grade level. We were better off as a country when children were taught to read from the bible.

Yes this business with their strong morals of not paying a minimum wage and having a history of putting local businesses out of business when they move in their big box retail stores.

If people put as much energy into helping the poor in their own towns rather than constantly attacking conservatives I wonder what kind of changes in their own lives they would see. This amount of hatred can't be healthy for you.

Walmart does this to promote...Walmart.

Its what a business does....makes a profit from giving sales and promotions.

Nothing moral or immoral about that, its just good business.

I won't lie. I am rather hypocritical when it comes to Wally World. I don't like the store, but it has everything I need in one trip. Prices are lower and alot more reasonable on groceries than our local Kroger. People like me is why WalMart is so successful. They don't care if we like the place because we are going to go there out of convenience.
The reason why their prices are so low is because they are so big. I may pay $1.00 for a notebook at some other store but it is only 0.50 at WalMart. They can have lower prices because of everything they offer. WalMart can sell at $1000 TV to make up for the price differences where a place like CVS or Walgreens sells only a fraction of what WalMart does. Even WalMarts prescriptions are cheaper than the countries top leading drug stores.

I hear all this chirping about Walmart kicking out local business.
No one kicks out the local businesses, other than those living in the local community.

If those in the local community want those businesses to stay there, then they need to shop at the local businesses.

They can't shop at Walmart and at the same time complain that Walmart kicked out the local businesses.

Local businesses fold because local citizens quit shopping there.

It's how capitalism works.

Want a store to remain open?
Then shop there.
Want it to close?
Then don't shop there.

If a local community wants a Walmart to close, then they can simply keep shopping at already established local businesses.
