Final Goodbyes

Adorned in white lace
Her voice sings a melody
The notes echo across
reaching the ears of mourning
Her unsteadiness betrays calm
As she looks in the open door
And she's broken again
This day shouldn't exist
He was invincible in her eyes
A fortress of solitude
Broken again she falls to her knees
Taken away by her brothers

As he stared in his blank face
His memory ran to the past
Days in a rundown home
The place dad came to life
Running through the small rooms
Jumping, and tackling
Screaming, and hugging.
All their times playing together
He was his mini-me
And always his best friend
He could do nothing but stare
Stare down at his blank face
Whisper a goodbye

He was the last and the oldest
He knew his father wasn't perfect.
He witnessed his darkest times
and he knew every moment was regretted
He knew that dad did the best he could
Even when he failed him
He wanted to succeed
He knew dad wanted to be here again
To make up all the lost time
To make up for the times he failed
Leaning down to kiss the forehead
"I'm going to miss you most of all"
