Music plays a big part in the Bible. From Genesis to Revelation, God enlists musicians to work on His behalf. He uses music to call people to worship and to send them to war, to soothe ragged emotions and to ignite spiritual passion, to celebrate victories and to mourn losses. Music is an all-occasion, all-inclusive art form.

One of the best uses for music is praise. When Solomon’s temple was completed, the musicians praised and thanked God. As they did, “the glory of the Lord filled the house of God2 Chron. 5:14.

We should thank God for music, for it’s like a preview of heaven, where the glory of God will dwell forever and where praise for Him will never cease.

For that reason I write an ode to music. I hope some of you like it. :)

I always loved music more than life.
Symphonic rhythms and melodic pipes.
Beats and bars, chords and strings that sound just right.
When times are tough its ointment for the strife.
It's beautiful sound cuts the boredom sharp like a knife.
Music makes men want to get married and marry a wife.
Then choose a song as theirs for the rest of their life.
Maybe even listen and dance to it in the after-life.

Music, you've been a good friend to me.
What is it about you that always sets me free.
From this mental prison of which I am a detainee.
Even when things are paltry.
There's always the guarantee.
Like my God.
You'll always be there for me.

It's true.
All I need to do.
To get through.
Is just listen to you.

Oh what a gift as this. To hear the sounds of music.
Oh thanks and praise I have for this gift I hope I never loose it.
And I hate it when someone mutes it.
And when the neighbours knock I know I've abused it.
I probably shouldn't have brought in the drum kit.
But I will always have thanks and praise for the music.

Music you come in many ways, formats and styles.
And if only for a while, you're often able to make us smile.
That's why we keep you backed up as an MP3 file.
Just another single CD for the CD pile.

You're used for many different reasons, causes, events, intents and laments.
From birthdays to Christmas, marriages and the time of our demise.
It seems like you're with us all through our lives.
We dig your jives and give you high five's.
We listen to you with friends and enjoy the good vibes.

From going out tonight or to just chilling in instead.
From listening while at work or while resting in bed.
It seems I can't go a day without hearing it in my head.
Fools rush in where angels fear to tread.
To live this life without you fills me with dread.
You're the best thing since sliced bread.

Music you've made many a star. Some bigger by far.
You've made men change their ways.
You've improved their days.
And you never change.
You're like the sun after the rain.
You're like relief for the pain.
You're peace for a perplexed brain.
You're intravenously injected straight into the vein.
And when the songs finished we can just play it again!

Thanks Music.

Thanks God for the Music. And for the ears to hear it.

Matthew 11:15 He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
