I've never thought of Tolkien as a poet. He was his own thing.
Kind of like Chesterton. But Chesterton did something brilliant with the poem about
Lepanto. Tolkien never beat that, even on his best day.
It inspired me to write my own about Agincourt. Probably the best poem I've ever written. But I'm not going to post it here, because if you cut and paste it, you'll find my anonymous blog.
