False Self

If we take our vulnerable shell to be our true identity, if we think our mask is our true face, we will protect it with fabrications even at the cost of violating our own truth.

Looking in the mirror I see

The hollow image I call me

A projection of what they want me to be

A mask carefully fitted into place

It’s a joke and the jokes on me


Trading truth for a lie

Pursued what glittered till I died

And never was I truly alive

Only truth can break the spell

So true! Thank you for this, and well put. It has been hard - at least for me - to totally be myself without worrying about rejection. But I'm getting there. :)

Yes it is a difficult process, it requires time alone with God and a certain amount of separation from the world that insists that we wear these masks.
