A tired soldier makes camp for the night
I have done my duty, I have fought the fight
I bandage my wounds and sharpen my sword
I am anxiously waiting for my reward

The dents in my armor and the marks on my shield
The lonlyness i feel out here in the field
Remembering comrades gone and passed on
Sometimes I'm discouraged but still I press on

I look at the stars and think of God's glory
But just where do I fit into the story
I know he has me here for a reason
And I guess he bless me all in due season

I've been in the struggle for so many years
I've given my share of blood sweat and tears
I must keep my faith when I don't understand
Just what is my purpose, what is God's plan

Sometimes I feel my strength is all spent
But a good soldier still gives one hundred percent
So I'll just keep going and pressing my way
Until I see the Father on that glorious day

On the day of his comming, he takes us home
to beauty and glory and riches unknown
for we have endured and fought in his name
the sword is his word, his glory our gain

and all weary soldiers, tired and spent
raise a victorious cry at our Lord's decent
our armour replaced by a gleaming white robe
our heads topped with crowns, a sight to behold

where He reigns forever, no sin abounds
so, soldiers, stand firm 'till that last trumpet sounds.

And, the wait won't be much longer,
So I shall keep on going on stronger.

Fighting this fight of faith I do fight,
Fighting this fight of faith with all of His might.

The days will bore on and I will keep waiting,
like a mother her baby's crying abating.

So on we will go, not worrying about the night,
I will wait no more longer, there's work in His sight.

Moving far forward as His Spirit leads,
the time of His harvest makes me keep off my knees.

Oh, Lord, I am waiting, and, will wait 'til that time,
that you take this ole soldier to bed in your arms.
