One Soul’s Journey
By; Gary L. S. West

I’ve been a soldier, dark and bleak, every nightmare’s dream
The shadow of a shadow where all the shadows teem
When they look, I’m never there, (or so that it would seem)
The ghost within the darkness who feeds on every scream

A clever sharp-tongued killer, whose words cut far too deep
And everyone who knows me is too afraid to sleep
And victim after victim will hear me and will weep
And every dark seed planted is one that I will reap

It’s dang’rous just to know me; none can doubt it’s true
My smile is just a warning of what will soon ensue
When I reached my best of worst, it happened right on cue
Every seed that I had sewn chose then to claim its due

Every deed and every sin that I have ever earned
Climbed out of my mirror then, smiled calmly and returned
To me, the one who gave them birth, who joyfully they burned
Revealed to me the pain of those who I, in whimsy, spurned

I, surviving, (only just), away so slowly crept
Questioned then the life I led, where once I’d blindly leapt
Understood my arrogance; that I was so inept
Knowing then regret, remorse, I knelt alone and wept

Determined then to recompense for all that I have done
‘Tis time to fight the mirror me; and I’ll not turn and run
I’ve no fear, though now I stare down the barrel of the gun
For, in my heart, I’ve broken free, so I’ve already won

I’m burning down my castle with my devil still inside
Storming down the corridors where demons try to hide
Opening the closets where the skeletons reside
I’m cleaning out my soul for one heaven of a ride
