Ashes and Lies

Staring down from the tower built from my hands
Throngs of heads moving beneath my eyes
"The kingdoms of the worlds are mine,
By your own hand these bricks were built,
By your own endeavors you've reached this height,
All within your eyes reach I put in your hands
If only you kneel down and worship me."
These familiar words whisper in my ear
Tickling a sleeping beast raging inside me
By my own hands did I achieve.
My own endeavors did succeed.
It's only right to gain what I deserve.
But through the iris I see a valley of horror
Pain inflicted and ever expected.
No sign of peace, and no sign of hope
Backs on God to breathe their sin.
Bent on destruction and ever burning flame.
It's then I see my tower for what it truly is.
My own salvation and redemption built on nothing
Blown down by a single whisper in the air
In the midst of a tower of ashes and lies
