The poem that I wrote below is specifically about a male penguin. It might sound ridiculous, but I absolutely adore penguins. Thus, penguins are my favorite animals. I believe what inspired me to write this poem is not only my admiration for penguins, but also my continual search for the “perfect” man. Whether a myth or an actual a fact, it is said that a penguin chooses his mate for life. (I thought this would be a funny poem to add - so I hope you enjoy it.)
The two poetic devices that I purposely used in my poem are rhythm and imagery. For rhythm, I developed the poem so that every second and fourth lines of each stanza rhyme. Because my poem is more “comedic” to taste, I thought that using rhyme would aid in a lighter feel of my poem. Also, I used similes to strengthen the imagery that I attempted to convey.
Have a blessed day everyone!
A Penguin,
The Perfect Man
Short and fluffy are his unique attributes,
Without a tint of cheerful color.
Of course black and white fit him precisely best,
By wearing the tuxedo as his main décor.
He acknowledges one female as his wife,
And will never bamboozle her.
He guards over his children like a steady post,
Under the nest of his perfect fur.
Waddling and Swimming are his latest procedures,
When he runs about the frosty ground.
Completely oblivious to the world he dwells,
A free spirit he has found.
How lovely it would be to experience this love,
But dating a penguin will never be.
Too bad the human man will never compare,
To a Penguin such as thee.
