Cobus suggested that he did not believe people still received Psalms today. For me, this means he does not believe that the Holy Spirit "still inspires" believers to write Hymns of Praise to God today. I strongly disagree, and as evidenced by the many, many Praise Hymns/Poems here on CC, it is not even open to argument that the Holy Spirit DOES in fact, STILL inspire some believers to write Hymns of Praise today.

Let us be sure that we understand what a "psalm" is:

(from dictionary.com)
[h=2]psalm[/h] /sɑm/ Show Spelled [sahm] Show IPA noun 1. a sacred song or hymn.

2. ( initial capital letter ) any of the songs, hymns, or prayers contained in the Book of Psalms.

3. a metric version or paraphrase of any of these.

4. a poem of a similar nature.

[HR][/HR] Origin:
before 900; Middle English psalm ( e ), s ( e ) alm ( e ), psame, Old English ps ( e ) alm, sealm < Late Latin psalmus < Greek psalmós song sung to the harp, orig., a plucking, as of strings, akin to psállein to pluck, pull, play (the harp)

Now that we understand what a Psalm is, let me also add that I DO NOT assert that my Hymns of Praise are "as worthy," or "more worthy" of any others posted here, and certainly not "as worthy," or "more worthy" than those Hymns of Praise contained in the Book of Psalms in the Holy Bible.

I have read many of the praise offerings here on CC, and I am fully convinced that the Holy Spirit surely inspired these writings.......thus the position of Cobus does not have the "ring of truth" in my opinion.

God bless you each and every one!

"WASHED AWAY"

(A Hymn of Praise To God)

He said My yoke is easy, My burden is light, I'm the Way, I'm the Truth, and the Life. If this Water you drink, you'll never thirst again, and I'll wash your sins away. Washed away, washed away, all the sin of my life washed away. Jesus saves, Jesus saves, like that old song says, Jesus saves.

To a tree they nailed the only Son of God, and His precious blood stained that tree. But is wasn't for anything He'd don, He died for you and me. Washed away, washed away, all the sin of my life washed away. Jesus saves, Jesus saves, like that old song says Jesus saves.

How I love to sing those old Gospel songs, The Old Rugged Cross, At Calvary. What a Day That Will Be, when we gather on that shore, singing Blessed Assurance evermore. Washed away, washed away, all the sin of my life washed away. Jesus saves, Jesus saves, like that old song says Jesus saves.

Amen.

(untitled #2)

(Hymn of Praise to God)

Savior Lord, I want to say I love You, Father God, I praise Your name, Holy Spirit, You’ve been a comfort to me, and now I’m finally coming home.

So many years I lived in sorrow, walking through this world of sin and shame. Never knowing the meaning of salvation, until the night You called my name.

I can still recall that very night, on bended knee I cried in anguish. Is there anyone, anywhere who loves me? Can anyone take away this pain? I knelt down broken and defeated, but I arose a child of the King.

So many years I lived in sorrow, walking through this world of sin and shame. Never knowing the meaning of salvation, until the night You called my name.

Savior Lord, I want to say I love You, Father God, I praise Your name, Holy Spirit, You’ve been a comfort to me, and now I’m finally coming home.

“THAT DAY”

(A Hymn of Praise to God)

No weeping, no weeping, no weeping that day.
When my live is ‘ore, and I wake nevermore,
Gather ye ‘round and no weeping that day.

Sing praises, sing praises, sing praises that day.
My last race is run, and I’m at home with the Son,
Gather ye ‘round and sing praises that day.

Be joyous, be joyous, be joyous that day.
I’m sitting at God’s feet, and He’s smiling at me,
Gather ye ‘round and be joyous that day.

Cry Holy, cry Holy, cry Holy that day.
I’ll be waiting for you, and Jesus is too,
Gather ye ‘round and cry Holy, cry Holy,
Cry Holy that day.

Amen

WALK ON THE WATER

(A Hymn of Praise to God)

I’ll walk on the water, walk on the water,
Walk on the water Lord, just bid me come to You.
I’ll step right out this boat Lord, step right out this
Boat Lord, step right out this boat and come walking
Home to You.
‘Cause the faith that I prayed for, the faith that I prayed for, the faith that I prayed for Lord, You gave me

Times two.
And I’ll walk on the water, walk on the water,

Walk on the water Lord, just bid me come to You.

I’ll climb up that mountain, climb up that mountain,
Climb up that mountain Lord, just bid me come to You.
I won’t tarry long now, won’t tarry long now, won’t tarry
Long Lord, I’ll come climbing up to You.
‘Cause the strength that I prayed for, the strength that I prayed for, the strength that I prayed for Lord you gave me Times two.
And I’ll climb up that mountain, climb up that mountain, climb up that mountain Lord, just bid me come to You.

I’ll live in the desert, live in the desert, live in the desert
Lord, just bid me come to You.
I won’t take food or water, w
on’t take food or water, won’t take food or water Lord,
Just bid me come to you.
‘Cause the well that I drank from, the well that I drank from, the well that I drank from was salvation times two.
And I’ll walk on the water, climb up that mountain, live in the desert Lord, just bid me come to You.

Amen

BENEATH THY WINGS

(A Hymn of Praise to God)

Oh sweet angel standing by me,
Let me hide myself beneath thy wings,
Keep the world away,
Keep the tempest at bay.
Oh sweet angel.... let me hide myself
Beneath thy wings.

Oh sweet angel standing by me,
I know you were sent
By the Great I Am.
Over me to care,
‘till the day doth come,
When you’ll carry me home
To be with Him.

Oh sweet angel, oh sweet angel,
Let me hide myself
Beneath thy wings.

Oh sweet angel,
Oh sweet angel,
Let me hide myself
Beneath thy wings.

Beneath thy wings.

Amen

People may feel free to add to this thread with their own Hymns of Praise to God if they wish. Just saying........I call these "Hymns of Praise to God" because while they are in poetic form, they are "sung" to God. While the Holy Spirit did not choose to give me the gift of being able to read and write music, the music/melody for each of these is deeply ingrained in my heart, and I do not "recite" them, rather I "sing" them to God.

In my opinion that's the difference between a "Poem of Praise," and a "Hymn of Praise." Now, a Poem of Praise is STILL considered a Psalm.......please read the definition provided in the OP to confirm this.

God bless you each and every one.

CANAAN’S KING

(A Hymn of Praise to God)

There’s a child who’s born in Bethlehem,
And Jesus is His name.
He’s the perfect Son of the Great I Am,
And Jesus is His name.
Jesus, Jesus, oh what a beautiful name.
Jesus, Jesus, I’m so happy to earth You came.

There’s a Man who speaks in Jerusalem,
And Jesus is His name.
He’s worked wonders here for all to see,
And Jesus is His name.
Jesus, Jesus, oh what a beautiful name.
Jesus, Jesus, I’m so happy to earth You came.

There’s a Lamb who died at Calvary,
And Jesus is His name.
He bore my sins, my guilt, my shame,
And Jesus is His name.
Jesus, Jesus, oh what a beautiful name,
Jesus, Jesus, I’m so happy to earth You came.

There’s a King who reigns in Canaan Land,
And Jesus is His name.
From the grave He rose to claim His throne,
And Jesus is His name.
Jesus, Jesus, oh what a beautiful name,
Jesus, Jesus, I’m so happy to earth You came.

Amen

MERCY ME

(A Hymn of Praise to God)
[with directions for Choir]

(Choir, music: 1[SUP]st[/SUP] verse of The Old Rugged Cross; do not sing chorus. When verse ends, music continues to play softly.)

(speaker)
Well mercy, mercy, mercy me. What’s going on at Calvary?
There’s a man nailed to a tree. They say He died for you and me. A thief on the left, a thief on the right, by God’s Grace one of those thieves has seen the light. And look, there’s soldiers gambling for His coat, wasn’t that what the prophets wrote? What are we gonna do, when this world is through? What are we gonna say, come the Judgment Day?

Well mercy, mercy, mercy me. What’s going on at Calvary?
They’ve put that man in a cave, said it was a rich mans grave.
They got a big old rock for a door. One of the soldiers standing there said “don’t you worry none, He won’t be back no more. For two days it’s been a fright. All the Christians have fled from sight. What are we gonna do, when this world is through? What are we gonna say, come the Judgment Day?

Well mercy, mercy, mercy me. What’s going on at Calvary?
That big old rock’s been rolled away! There ain’t nobody in that grave! The resurrection is at hand, death couldn’t hold The Son of Man!

(Choir, music: chorus of He Arose. Sing with great joy. At the completion of the chorus, music returns to The Old Rugged Cross)

(speaker)
Well mercy, mercy, mercy me. What’s going on with you and me? All those years have passed us now, things don’t seem much different somehow. There’s people living in the street, no place to bathe or sleep or eat. There’s babies dying by the Doctors hand, just because it’s the law of the land. There’s women and children being beat, does the blame lay at our feet? What are we gonna do, when this world is through? What are we gonna say, come the Judgment Day?

Well mercy, mercy, mercy me. What’s going on with you and me? Did Christ Jesus die in vain? Or will you now confess His Name? What are you gonna do, when this song is through? Will you kneel and pray? Or will you turn your back on Him and walk away?

Well mercy, mercy, mercy me. Please sweet Jesus have mercy on me.

(Choir sings chorus to The Old Rugged Cross, repeat chorus and invite congregation to join in)

Amen

These are a few of the Hymns of Praise I have penned to God over the years.......and I know in my heart that the Holy Spirit inspired me to write these Hymns of Praise. Without His inspiration, I would have never had the words or the desire to write these. Now Coubs, or others, may say that I can't PROVE that the Holy Spirit inspired me, and I suppose that is true. However, neither Cobus, nor any other, can PROVE that the Holy Spirit did not inspire me (by giving me the words and melody) to write these Hymns of Praise.

I believe there are many God fearing believers today that the Holy Spirit inspires in many ways, to do many things, and it is the Holy Spirit that stands as our Witness, and He does so, for in what we write, sing, say, or do, we do so with Praise to God.

God bless you each and every one.

Yea, thou art beyond all comprehension or fathom, you are without failing, without flaw, without blemish or mark; you are in the wind and out of it, you are between couples, and far from me, Oh you whom have not missed the mark, who is like unto you? You whom I fear; yet am without fear, you whom is without fault, how will I ever dwell in thy house? Whom is worthy before your face? With but a sigh, you bring Angels to grace. Michael, Michael, Michael? Yea, verily; O Lord of Hosts, Have mercy on me, O Christ our King and Our God. O Lord Jesus Christ our King and our God, whom is everywhere present, and fill’st all things, how will I ever stand with the obedience of Abraham? Who is likened unto you O God? Who can stand before thy Laws?
