I look in the mirror,
But I don’t see me.
I see a mere blurry glimpse
Of who I want to be.

These scars I’ve held onto
From my broken past
Look like deep scratches
Of what should be clear glass.

I reach my hand to touch them
Scared of what I’ll feel.
Could I wash them off
In better hope to heal?

When my hand hits the glass,
The mirror shatters to pieces.
I jump back in horror
And then fall down to my knees.

My heart pounds heavy inside me
As tears rain down my face.
Could this be the evidence
Of God’s forgiving grace?

As I kneel there in that broken mess
I ask God what he wants to show me.
I feel Him nudge my head up
To see what He wants me to see.

My eyes open to see the mirror
Not in pieces but now crystal clear.
My Jesus on that old rugged cross,
My pain and sins to bear.

I hear His voice inside my soul
Whisper softly to my heart
“I came to die to make you clean
For you are my beautiful work of art.”

I then saw that rugged cross
Slowly fade away
To see the most beautiful princess
Staring back to my display.

The girl I now see in the mirror
I never could have imagined.
My scars were washed white as snow
To show me the girl He fashioned.
